Saturday 9: The Sweet Escape

The Sweet Escape (2006)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) This song begins with, "First of all, let me say I must apologize ..." Who most recently apologized to you?  One of the residents at the nursing home. The ones in the dementia unit are always apologizing for things that they didn't do or don't need to apologize for.

2) Gwen Stefani sings that she acted like "sour milk on the floor." Is there milk in your refrigerator right now? What about non-dairy creamer?  Yes, to milk...both 2% and chocolate (for our grandson) and no, to non-dairy creamer since we don't drink coffee.

3) In the video, Gwen wears several different pairs of stiletto heels. What are you wearing on your feet as you answer these questions?  Nothing. As long as the weather stays nice I am usually barefoot in the house.

4) Mrs. Stefani named her daughter "Gwen" after a stewardess in the book/movie Airport. Who was your favorite character in the book you just read, or movie you most recently watched? I just finished reading some chick lit called Alphabet Weekends and I liked the main character, Natalie.

5) Gwen is a distant cousin of Madonna's. Are there any performers in your family? Sort of. I have a second cousin (or is it first cousin once removed?) who is a very well known song writer in Nashville. He and his wife are heavy hitters there with their production company. He has won song writer of the year a couple of times.

6) In high school, she joined the swim team not because she enjoys swimming but because she wanted to lose weight. Are you doing anything (dieting, participating in an exercise regimen) in order to shed a few pounds?  I take Adipex-P and try to watch what I eat.

7) Before she became successful, Gwen worked at the makeup counter in a department store. What was the last thing you purchased? Did you buy it online or at a store?  I dropped a prescription off at Walmart last evening and did a quick run through the fall decorations. I came home with a few things.

8) Gwen has gotten a great deal of publicity for her romance with country star, Blake Shelton. What's your favorite Blake Shelton song?  I like too many to pick a favorite, but since you mentioned Blake....he is one of those that cousin of mine has written songs for.

9) Random question: Which of these compliments would make you the happiest -- to be called fascinating, or brilliant, or gorgeous?
  Fascinating.

Thanks, as always, to Sam @ Saturday 9 for the fun song and questions!

  1. If your second cousin / first cousin once removed is anybody in Nashville that is a big deal! Kind of like Hollywood for the recording industry.

  2. I swear I see Blake Shelton on a magazine cover at least once a month. I somehow know that Miranda broke his heart and now he's happy with Gwen. So the man is a multimedia superstar ... and a friend of your family!

I'm going to be one of patients you mentioned in #1. I know it. I feel like I spend every day apologizing.

    1. Better to be that than one of the nasty ones...and sadly, there are quite a few of those, too.

  3. My mother in law has dementia--and all I can say is, she never apologizes, its the opposite, it is really sad to see her so angry and mean. sigh.IT.IS.WHAT.IT.IS. Just keeping it real.

Our Walmart is a little slow on putting out the fall items, sigh.

    1. Yes, it does seem dementia patients come in 3 varieties...super nice, super nasty, or emotionless.

  4. My aunt had dementia. When I visited her she kept on saying she didn't know where the stack of quarters she had on her nightstand came from. Talking to the nursing staff she won them at the Setback card game, I figured she had the longest memory and could remember which cards were played.

    1. She may have. There are different kinds of dementia and in some kinds they can still learn and remember new things even while losing old memories. We get a resident every now and then that can learn the security code to open the doors so we are always careful not to let them see us punch it in or hear us say it.

  5. I cannot make it through Walmart without picking up a ton of stuff I know I didnt really need.. Hubs says we're lucky if he make it out under 100 bucks. Of course though a lot of it is stuff he gets like car change oil, stuff for his computer, etc..

    1. Ha, ha! I always joked that I'd go into Walmart for one thing and end up spending $50. It's still like that except with rising costs it's more like $100 now!

  6. That is so cool your cousin is a successful music writer! That is a gift. I do not think that would be easy.
The dementia patients. God love them. When my dad was on that wing, I just adored them and so did Josh. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend!

    1. They really are lovable. Even the mean, nasty ones if you remember they can't help it.

  7. A Nashville songwriter is a big deal. Cool. My husband says I spend $100 every time I go to Walmart. Which is why I don't go very often.
