Hoooo-boy! Terri @ Your Friend From Florida has found all kinds of crazy "holidays" for us to celebrate today. She couldn't choose just one so today's Wednesday Medley is a collection of questions based on each one!
For National Peach Ice Cream Day...
1. Do you enjoy fresh peaches? What is your favorite way to use them in a recipe? I do! I think fresh, ripe peaches are one of the best flavors of summer. Usually, I just eat them or cut them up in a bowl of cereal. Once in a while I will make peach cobbler, which is, in my humble opinion, the best dessert ever!
For National Wrong Way Corrigan Day...
2. Have you ever gone the wrong way on a one-way street? Yes, but I wasn't the one driving. It's happened more than once when I've been a passenger. What do you think about Mr. Corrigan's story? True or false? I think the man knew exactly what he was doing. I mean, c'mon....he ended up in Ireland instead of New York because he couldn't see the landmarks??? You'd think he might have noticed it was taking hours and hours longer than it should have. The fact that he'd applied for a flight plan to Ireland and modified his plan are kind of condemning, too.
For National Yellow Pig Day...
3. Tell us about your life when you were 17. I turned 17 the summer before my senior year and I was in the Pocono Mountians of Northeast Pennsylvania. I had applied for and gotten a job with the Youth Conservation Corp for the summer. It was the first time I had ever been away from home for more than a couple of days and along with the work (which was very demanding physically), I made some great friends and got to see and experience a lot of things. I absolutely loved it and wanted to return the following year as a leader but the program was cut from the budget.
It's been brought back since then but for the most part the youth don't live in the parks as I did. Assignments are now local and the kids are responsible for getting to and from and providing their own lunch. It's still a great program that I'd recommend to anyone. I felt so much more grown up than most of my friends when I got home.
For World Emoji Day...
4. Do you use emojis when you text, email, or FB message? Do you have a favorite? I use them, but sparingly compared to many of my friends. I think a long string of hearts or kissy faces is annoying so I'm surely not going to send them to anyone else. No, I don't really have a favorite.
For National Tattoo Day...
5. It's been asked many times, but do you have a tattoo? Do you want to get a tattoo? I have one tattoo. I had talked about wanting one for years and when my 45th birthday was drawing near I started thinking that if I was ever going to do it, I needed to do it soon or quit talking about it. I shared that with Tim and one day when we were out running errands he stopped at a tattoo shop and took me in. A week later (it took that long to find a design and they wanted you to be sure you wanted it) I crawled up on the table and got a cute fishy in water with shells, a starfish, and seaweed around him. It has 17 colors and was so bright at first that people didn't think it was real. It's faded a good bit, but all the colors are still there. As for another...my daughter and I talked about getting mother/daughter ones but haven't been able to agree on one...and if I were to ever get one just for myself it would be footprints along the side of my foot with the scripture about "walk by faith, not by sight."
6. Last, but not least, tell us something about your week. Life is so hectic right now! Our cruise is coming up next Thursday so I am all about getting ready for that. I think all the shopping for clothes is done. Tomorrow I'm racing from work to Monroeville (a good hour away if traffic is good) to get my hair cut by the only woman "nearby" trained in the Deva Curl method. Friday is my day off and I have an appointment with the doctor so I can get prescriptions filled before we leave and I'm also going to have my hair colored.
I refuse to go back to the salon I went to in May (that I've been going to for years) since they fried my hair and I had chemical burns all over my scalp, neck, and ears. The salon I'm going to on Friday is owned by a high school friend. I'm hoping she will be gentler, but accomplish what I want, which is something that is lighter and that the gray will blend into so I don't have to dye my roots every 2 weeks or less. I'm almost thinking of what they used to call "frosting."
We are also getting ready for baby Leah's arrival. Megan's c-section is scheduled for the 29th. We won't be here for it, but I'm doing what I can to help ready things. How awesome will it be to come home from our vacation to get to hold a new grandbaby???
Awesome news on the new impending grandbaby's arrival (grin). I enjoyed your answers. I have straight baby fine hair (lost the thick hair to breast cancer) and it is so hard to find someone who will upkeep it for me or know what to do with it.
ReplyDeleteHave fun on your trip, smiles.
Thanks for the visit. I'm sorry about your hair troubles...it would stink to have to start over learning how to deal with your hair mid-life. I've barely figured out the hair I started with. I do hope that you're dealing with your hair means you are cancer free!
DeleteI had my hair cut in the Deva Cut a few years ago! Did the coloring burn your hair or did you have a perm? Sounds fun to have been in the Pocono Mountains as a teen. Makes me think of Marjorie Morningstar. Enjoy the cruise. It's always crazy getting ready for vacation and then catching up when you return. Have fun in-between!!! I don't like long strings of emojis either. What's funny is when I receive a text while driving and the lady reads all those to me!!! "Smiling face with kissing hearts." Haha!!
ReplyDeleteIt is soooo funny when the car lady reads emojis! I like that she does recognize them as faces now. The first car I had that did that read them as "colon, dash, parentheses." Then I'd have to think about it for a minute to know what it was. I guess that's "progress?" Did you like your Deva Cut? I like it, but my hair is long enough I can get away with one or two a year so I don't feel bad about the cost. I'm actually not going to get mine today after all (long story). I'm hoping I can get a normal trim or cut when I get my hair dyed tomorrow.
DeleteA new grandbaby is a good way to ease the sadness of vacation ending!
ReplyDelete"Frosting" - wow haven't heard that in awhile!!!! .... OH FRIEND - I dont know what I'm going to do about my gray - its just coming in fast & furious & its expensive to do every 6 weeks - I really need every 4 weeks - I need a 2nd job . I'm trying to find a good hair color I could potentially do at home. (that's a little terrifying)
Oh gosh...I am so not up for a second job to afford my hair! lol I'm thinking that if I frost it or something similar maybe it will ease me (and Tim who doesn't want me to go gray) into it. I'm to the point of needing to cover the roots within 2 weeks. I may need a second job and a sugar daddy!
DeleteI can't think of anything better to come home to than a grandbaby! My mother used to get her hair frosted. It looked fabulous. I hope your will have the same results. Have a safe and fun cruise!
ReplyDeleteThank you and we are certainly excited about meeting little Leah when we get home!
DeleteSounds like yur 17th summer was a coming of age event as well.. Going off however you are engaged in new adventures under a prescribed authority can't help but help one grow up and come home a more mature person.. I did for me!!
ReplyDeleteI'd say it was definitely a coming of age summer.
DeleteThat Youth Conservation Camp sounds am-hazing! I wish something like that had been available -- no, make that mandatory -- back when I graduated. Looking back, it's a wonder I remembered to tie my own shoelaces. Ha.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm sure that's how my dad saw me back then.
DeleteYour camp sounds amazing! I have never had a deva curl cut...let me know how it goes! I am getting my hair done next week as you leave for you vacation. I hope it is wonderful by the way! Loved your answers! Have a nice week!

Lori, I've had the Deva Curl cut before. They're all I've been getting for the last 4 years or so. My hair is at least shoulder length so I can get away with only getting it cut once or twice a year so that off sets the price. I'm not always in agreement with all the goop the girl who cuts mine puts in and leaves in. I can't stand the feeling (I feel like my hair is filthy!). But the way she does it, each curl is cut as a single thing so it stays together rather than having separate hairs curling all over the place and having to try to tame them.
DeleteThe impending birth of your new grandbaby is so exciting! I am also excited for you and Tim to be off on your cruise! Kind of cool that he took you to get your tattoo! Your summer job, when you were 17, sounds more interesting than mine was! Thanks for joining the Medley today!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terri! I am sooooo ready for this vacation and the escape from reality for a few days. We sure are excited about coming home to meet little Leah, too, though.
