Sunday Stealing: Music Medicine

Linking up with Bev and the merry gang of thieves at Sunday Stealing for a musical meme today.

1. A song that gives you goosebumps.  Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah sung by k.d. Lang.

2. A song you hated once but now love.  I can't think of one. There was a big age difference between my mom and dad so I grew up listening to music from the 40's, 60's, and my own generation. My tastes are pretty varied as a result. I was just as likely to be glued to The Lawrence Welk Show, Hee Haw, American Bandstand, or Soul Train.

3. Do you remember your first CD?  No, I don't. My first record album, however, was this one.

4. Has your music taste changed much since childhood?  I can't say that it has. It's still quite varied and I'm still drawn to upbeat songs with a fast beat that make you want to get up and move.

5. Favorite genre?  If I have to choose....maybe rock or country, because today's country is very much like the rock of my youth.

6. What’s a genre or style of music that you just don’t understand?  Death Metal.

7. Do you have a process for listening to music, such as listening to the instruments more than words?  I'm not aware of having one and the music and the words are both important to my enjoyment.

8. What’s your favorite thing about your favorite song? It immediately takes me back to a particular place and time. And it's just super fun to sing along with.

9. Do you have a favorite decade for music?  My teen years and early 20's spanned the 70's and 80's so it's kind of a tie between the two.

10. Can you play any instruments?  If you need a kazoo player, I'm your woman!

11. Do you remember your first favorite song?  I do.

12. What was the first concert you ever attended?  Pure Prairie League. I knew a couple of their songs at the time, but they weren't a favorite. It was just that they performed on the local college campus....and a college guy asked me to go, which was pretty exciting even though he turned out to be very far removed from being a keeper.

    1. Turning 30 was the only birthday that ever bothered me. I don't know what it was, but that one really depressed me.

    1. Would you believe that until recently I didn't even know he was in the group? Who would have thunk it...Vince Gill in a stoner band!

  3. Ha! Tom grew so frustrated with network TV the other night he turned on Lawrence Welk. Growing up, that was my parent's 'appointment TV.'
I don't really understand Hallelujah, but a remarkable singer makes such a difference.

    Great header!

    1. My parents watched Welk, Hee Haw, and all the variety shows that had some music...Flip Wilson, Carol Burnett, Ed Sullivan, Sonny and Cher, and Donny and Marie all come to mind.

  4. Great answers. I'm just a year older than you so it's the 70s and 80s for me on Song Quiz on Alexa (try it, you'll love it). Sometimes I try other years like the 2000s and usually score very badly but have a good laugh.

    1. Thanks for the link. I haven't heard that song in forever! I kind of liked some of Alice's songs. I loved his From the Inside album.

    1. Thanks, Lori! Billy was HUGE when I was in high school and Piano Man takes me back to the frat my friends and I liked to party at in college. They always ended their parties with everyone in a big circle, arms around each other's shoulders singing the song. My boyfriend at the time was always in the center leading it.
