Saturday 9: I'm Moving On

It's a working weekend for me so I am posting the Saturday 9 early. I had today off after 3 very trying days in the dementia unit (I have no idea what was stirring them all up) so I am rested and ready to go in the morning. I made a start on the clutter and mess so I'm feeling less stressed, too. You all enjoy your Saturday and I'll catch up with you later tomorrow afternoon or evening!

Saturday 9: I'm Moving On (1965)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Chyvonne Scott sings that she's sick of her lover's "conniving." Tell us about a time you felt deceived. (It doesn't have to involve romance.)  I, unfortunately, find myself feeling that way quite a bit at work. My boss says one thing and then when I do it, says it's wrong. I can't decide if she's just that evil or if she doesn't express herself well or if there is something else entirely going on. It's frustrating, though.

2) She realizes it's time to move on to another love. What's your favorite love song? Is it about a relationship that's running smoothly? Or is it like "I'm Moving On," about an unhappy love affair?  This one. Every time I hear it I still think of school dances, disco balls, and slow dancing.

3) Though Chyvonne Scott enjoyed only limited success as a recording artist, she was very popular in New York clubs. When did you most recently listen to music performed live?  Two weeks ago at work. We have entertainment come in for the residents at least once a month, but often more. Some of them are very good. Like the woman who plays the ukulele and sings old classics. Loooove her! The two guys who came last month and sang 50's and 60's sock hop kinds of songs were pretty good, too, and a lot of fun.

4) In 2017, this song appeared on a Samsung commercial that poked fun at rival iPhone. Is your cell phone an Apple or Android? How did you choose your phone?  Android. It probably doesn't make sense now, but my first computer experiences (waaaaay back in the 80's) were with Mac's and it was so frustrating and difficult to do I hated computers. My next experience was with Windows several years later and there was such a difference that I just kind of equate Apple with being a pain in the butt by comparison.

5) Chyvonne is an unusual name. In 1965, when this song was first released, the most popular baby names in the US were Michael and Lisa. Do you have any Michaels or Lisas in your life?  No, I don't. That's kind of surprising since I was born in 1964 and a lot of people my age carry those names.

6) Also in 1965, Winston Churchill died. In researching this week's Sat. 9, Sam discovered a Churchill quote that's new to her: "I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught." Share something interesting that you recently learned.  I read a book about fireflies to the residents in the dementia unit the other day and learned that while there are at least 2000 different species of fireflies, the populations are declining. (It's not my imagination that I don't see that many of them these days!) I also learned that males and females flash different sequences, but may sync up at times and that while yellow is the most common color light, they can also glow light red, orange and even green!

7) In 1965, one of the most successful movies ever made, The Sound of Music, was released. Have you ever seen it?  Yes. It isn't one of my favorites. Sorry.

8) Lava lamps were already popular in England and Brussels, but in 1965 they were introduced in the US. Do you think lava lamps are cool?  I definitely did back in the day, right along with strobe, black, and infinity lights. Maybe not so much these days, but then again...mid-century modern furnishings are growing on me and every groovy pad needs a lava lamp.

9) Random question -- You have to buy something very personal that you find embarrassing. Would you rather pay cash for it, so your identity would be unknown but you'd have to face the cashier? Or order it online, where you could avoid looking anyone in the eye, but you have to share your name and address?  I'm not sure what would be that embarrassing. Anything medical would not bother me. Other than that I probably shouldn't be buying anything that I'd be embarrassed to have anyone know about.

  1. Loved the information about the fireflies. We don't have them out here. I've only seen them twice and they were magical.

    1. We used to have tons of them in our yard when the kids were young, but now there are only a few. It makes me sad. They were one of the things I remember most about summer evenings growing up.

  2. Loved your answers. I didn't know that about fireflies. I too have noticed that I don't see them as much as I used to.

    1. It's sad but they are heading down the path to endangerment. :(

  3. Enjoyed reading your answers Stacy. I agree with your #4. I've worked, repaired and sold computers from DOS and up since 1985 and I never or still do care for MACs. Give me Windows anytime. Wow! 2000 different species of fireflies and I have rarely seen one in a very long time. Have a great day.

  5. Yes, that firefly info is very interesting.. I also love Eric Clapton...An amazing artist!! I never cared that much for Mid century modern until I watched some of Mad Men and I suppose when moneyed folks decorated their mid centurty homes it was very cool!

    1. I grew up in a family of antique junkies (or Pickers) so antiques will always have first place in my heart, but lately I find I'm really drawn to the clean, simple lines of mid-century pieces.

  6. I had that when i asked him if he wanted to do it any particular way he would say no, but then he would criticize the way I did it...Grr
In the evening before getting ready for bed, I sit out on the deck, sipping some Bailey's Irish Cream, and listening to a chapter in an audiobook, and the last couple of nights the fireflies have come out.

    1. "Grrr" just about covers it.
The fireflies are just beginning to come out here in western PA.

    1. Ha! That first thing kind of surprised me, too.
Frustrating is exactly what my boss is. The only thing saving me from hating my job is that I only have to work around her 2 days a week.

  8. The firefly book sounds so interesting! Oh, I just love them and it makes me sad to know there are not as many. We have several where I live, I will enjoy them as much as I can.
I have been in a work situation like that before and I hated it. I am sorry it is like that for you. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend!

  10. My last boss was a deceiver, as well. After a year, my nightmares are fewer and farther in between. Unfortunately, I'm aware of like-kind cases involving female executives. There's little likelihood I'll re-enter the work force, but I'd never want to work for a woman again.

    1. Ugh, it sounds like you had a REALLY crappy boss! I don't think I'll have nightmares over mine since I only have to work around her 2 days a week.

  11. Sorry about your boss. Sounds awful :( I think we are in the minority in not liking The Sound of Music. I don't see the hype about it at all.

    1. We are definitely a minority. Everyone else seems to love it.
