NATIONAL OREO COOKIE DAY
Be ready to observe by having your glass of milk handy as it is National Oreo Cookie Day. This day is recognized across the nation each year on March 6th.
The Oreo sandwich cookie is made up of two chocolate disks containing a sweet cream filling and is loved by millions. Since it’s introduction, the Oreo cookie has become the best-selling cookie in the United States.
The National Biscuit Company (today known as Nabisco) first developed and produced the “Oreo Biscuit” in 1912 at its Chelsea factory in New York City. Today, the block on which the factory was located is known as “Oreo Way”.
- The name “Oreo” was first trademarked on March 14, 1912.
- The first Oreo cookies in the United States sold for 25 cents a pound in clear glass topped novelty cans.
- In 1912, the Oreo Biscuit was renamed to “Oreo Sandwich”.
- In 1948, the Oreo Sandwich was renamed to “Oreo Creme Sandwich”.
- William A. Turnier developed the modern-day Oreo design in 1952 to include the Nabisco logo.
- Nabisco’s principal food scientist, Sam Porcello, developed the modern Oreo cookie filling.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Grab a glass of milk and a handful of Oreos to enjoy and use #NationalOreoCookieDay to post on social media.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Are you able to pass by a plate of cookies and not take one or are you a bit of a 'Cookie Monster'? I can pass by any cookie in the world....except Nestle Toll House Cookies. Talk about my kryptonite!
2. Tell us about your favorite cookie. Have your tastes changed since you were a kid? Well, I just told you it's Nestle Toll House Cookies and it always has been. Best cookies ever.
3. Enquiring minds want to know if you are a dunker and, if so, do you dunk in milk, coffee, or tea? Nope, not a dunker. I don't like soggy cookies and I don't like crumbs in my drink.
4. It is that time of year and they are selling them on every corner and in front of every store! Do you buy Girl Scout cookies and if you do, which is your favorite? I feel bad for the girls, but I don't buy the cookies these days. For one thing the price kills me. They are ridiculously expensive. For another thing, I don't support some of the things they GS's are aligned with. That said, Samoas are my favorite.
5. Raw cookie dough. Yay or Nay? It's not good for you...raw eggs and all that...but Yay!
6. Please tell us something random about your week!! Tim and I are both off this coming Saturday. We are going to work on the bathroom remodel (that's been a work in progress for over 2 years!), he's going to get his blood work done for the rheumatologist (finally!), and I am finally going to the eye doctor's (I've been wearing an old pair of glasses and the world has been getting fuzzier and fuzzier).
Well, that was fun, but now I'm in the mood for some Toll House cookies. I'm linking up with Terri @ Your Friend From Florida today. Drop over and say hi and join in the fun.
So. Toll House is the same as chocolate chip.
ReplyDeleteHow's the finger doing? Would you like me to send you a pair of mittens? Don't want to be throwing down gang signs or inadvertently making gestures.
Yes, Toll House cookies are chocolate chip cookies, but they are the BEST chocolate chip cookies!
DeleteHa! A pair of mittens might save me from gang signs, but they'd be disgusting germ collectors in the nursing home.
I always use the Toll House recipe and add walnuts. Delicious. These days I cut the sugar amount in half. Seems like putting off going to the eye doctor is a common thing. I need new glasses as well.
ReplyDeleteOthers around here might like the walnuts, but I don't eat any nuts. I'm weird...the texture of them skeeves me out. I do cut the sugar a little bit, too.
DeleteYep, no soggy cookies for me either! Have fun with the bathroom remodel.... last weekend it was the flooring for us.... Have a great Wednesday!!
ReplyDeleteI don't imagine it will be fun. The hubby doesn't feel well and working on the bathroom won't help that. He'll be grouchy and that will make me grouchy.
DeleteGood luck on the bath remodel. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're chore check list is taking a beating this weekend - good for you!
ReplyDeleteMmmm... WARM nestle chocolate chip cookies - makes me think of childhood.
You are so right - the price of GS cookies are CRAZYYYY
And now I'm in the mood for a glass of crumby-milk. LOL!
ReplyDeleteMay I borrow a smidgen of yours and Tim's 'get-er-done'? (Feeling like a slug over here today.)
Yep... Toll House are really good! My hubby says there is no such thing as a bad chocolate chip cookie! LOL I don't dunk soft cookies but sure do love to dunk those oreos! Thanks for joining in today! Enjoy your busy Saturday off!
ReplyDeleteI am with you Stacy!!! No crumbs in my drink - ick!!! Needing new glasses is the worst! I held off way to long last year and finally I was getting headaches everyday and had to give in to the eye doctor visit. Have a great day! Annster's Domain
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to wait so long for glasses. I called back in January for an appointment and this is the first opening they had!
DeleteThose toll house cookies can't be beat and I wouldn't ruin it or my drink by dunking. I am with you on the reasons for no longer buying the GS cookies.
ReplyDeleteOh yes!!! Toll House cookies are wonderful! I am not a dunker either...same reason. Loved your answers! Have a nice day!
