Just a quick update this morning. This past weekend was a working one for me, but we managed to get all the Christmas decorations taken down and packed up for another year. Now to get the house deep cleaned as I couldn't with all that stuff sitting around!
Last night the weather was pretty nice with temperatures near 50 degrees and clear skies so we did steaks on the grill and I threw a salad together. Yum! What a treat in January!
Work was....challenging. There are so many behaviors going on in the dementia unit right now, a result of taking certain meds away from some of them. It has something to do with our society's run amok political correctness and it being wrong to "chemically restrain" anyone. Really? So, we've reached the point where we can't give needed psych drugs?
Add to that fun, the daylight CNA is always the one I don't care for. The one who does as little as possible. The one who will let residents sit in their own filth for the next shift to deal with...unless they are ones she likes or whose families are likely to visit. The CNAs on the afternoon shift are beginning to take big notice and are documenting. I'm pretty sure a day of reckoning is coming, though probably not soon enough. I think it's what she wants. I heard her make comments more than once over the weekend about not caring what the protocol was for certain patients and about wanting to be thrown off the unit. Is it fun to be on the dementia unit? No! But I don't understand how anyone can be so hateful to those who can't help themselves. I sure hope she comes to know the Lord before she has to stand before him one day.
Working today. Possibly on the regular floor. It depends on whether or not the new hire starts today or not. She was supposed to start last week but called of sick. We are all holding our breath to see if she shows up. I really need one of the two to get started. Otherwise, I am stuck in dementia every day. To be honest, I'm not sure I mind being in the dementia unit right now as a severe intestinal virus is running rampant through the rest of the home. I do not want that!
I'm off tomorrow. Colton will be here for a while so Mommy can get some medical things concerning her pregnancy taken care of. It will be nice to get some time alone with him. He is such a character these days and makes me laugh. In the evening there is Bible study....we haven't met for 3 weeks so I'm really looking forward to that.
Oh, Tim did see the doctor and while he got rid of the big walking boot, he's supposed to be wearing a smaller brace because the doctor said he pulled the tendon away from the bone when he twisted it and broke it. He wore that one day and said it was too uncomfortable and hasn't worn it since. Grrrrr. He is one of those patients who refuses a bit of discomfort to get something healed, but will complain about it or let it limit him for weeks, months, years instead. I haven't been able to get him to think differently in 34 years so I don't think it's going to change.
I really should go get ready for work so I'd best wrap this up. Have a wonderful and blessed start to your week and I will see you tomorrow for 10 on Tuesday!
Tim, Tim, Tim!! Take care of that foot/ankle!! Temporary inconvenience for permanent improvement!! Stacy, I enjoyed reading you post today (always!). Praying for improvements in your work situation. Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteHi Stacy, I enjoyed my visit here today. My mom had Alzheimers but we took care of her at home and we had hospice the last 4 months. I hope you get the help you need.
ReplyDeleteOh Stacy, I love your latest header. So inviting! That daylight CNA has my blood boiling clear down here in Alabama. Your attitude is certainly more charitable than mine (would be).
ReplyDeleteMEN! What is the deal with that? I think they just enjoy having something to complain about...ha! Thank you for all you do to care for those that cannot care for themselves. I am sure it is a thankless job but you are an angel to those people!!!
