Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
In honor of Elvis' birthday (January 8.)
1) Elvis sings that he thinks about this girl all the time. What person or topic is on your mind this Saturday? I guess I'm thinking about meeting up with a couple of my sisters-in-law, nieces, and grand-nieces and nephews for lunch and a trip to the cemetery where my inlaws are buried. They are all into the whole family visiting together. Me? Not so much. Also, it's really cold and snow is on the way...kind of miserable weather to be standing around in the cemetery.
2) He wants to forget the day he met his girl, but simply can't. Think about someone very important in your life. Did you know right away that they were going to be influential? I didn't. I actually met the woman who is now one of my best friends and my Bible teacher several times over several years before we even connected and began to talk.
Since this week's song is about memories, let's check on how well you recall events in your own life.
3) What was the first concert you ever attended? Pure Prairie League. It was 1981 or 82 and they played at the local college.
4) Where did you get your first piercing? (Not only where on your body, but who did the deed and where did they do it?) I got my ears pierced when I was 10 at the Piercing Pagoda at the mall.
5) What's the name of the bank where you had your first checking account? Banks change names and ownership so much around here that I have no idea.
6) Tell us about your first bicycle. It was a little red and white one with training wheels. I remember going to get it at the Western Auto hardware store. I'm thinking it was a Radio Flyer (like the wagons).
7) Who received the first text you ever sent? Apparently, this was a milestone I should have remembered? Sorry, but I don't. I would guess it was either my husband or one of my kids, but I'm just not sure.
8) What had you been drinking when you suffered your first hangover? Fruit punch with grain alcohol. It was popular at the frat parties in college.
9) Whose was the first wedding you ever attended? Probably my aunt's when I was 5. I was her flower girl.
If you thought this was fun, please be sure to pay a visit to Sam @ The Saturday 9 for the links to the others playing and to find the rules so you can join in, too!
"Amie, what you gonna do?" I worked with a woman (Amy) who was charming but unreliable. Her admin used to sing that Pure Prairie League song about her.
ReplyDeleteFunny, the songs we identify with people. I think that is the only song I even know by them. I just went because, hey, my first concert!
DeleteAt the sorority, we had wapituli.
ReplyDelete1. Brand new galvanized bushel basket (½ size garbage can), thoroughly rinsed.
2. Block of dry ice.
Price of admission to the party was frozen juice and a bottle of liquor. Pour it in the bushel basket / garbage can. Then there was always that one guy with prune juice and Old Stagg.
Had they thought of it, I'm sure they would have done that. It was made in a full-size galvanized garbage can, though...hence the name Garbage Can Punch.
DeleteOh yes! We had that fruit punch drink mixed with everclear a lot too. It was called something, but I have forgotten. I googled it, but I cannot find the name we called it. Oh well...I am sure I was sick on that as well. Hahahahha Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

Nasty stuff!
DeleteI was really temped to skip Number 8.. so happy to see there were some other rather foolish gals during their college days... I guess we learn from the bad as well!I certainly am not judging.. I remember my experience too painfully!!!
ReplyDeleteI think for an awful lot of us it's a rite of passage.
DeleteI bet the Pure Prairie League was a fun concert--I used to love their harmonies.
ReplyDeleteMy first college party experience was dumping a can of frozen lemonade concentrate into a "Texas Tumbler" and diluting it with gin. I shudder to think of it now but woo-ee! Was it ever the drink of the day!
I only knew one of their songs. I went just because it was my first concert and because a college guy invited me.
DeleteGosh, I hope your and Megan's afternoon at the cemetery wasn't too dreadful. I loved Pure Prairie League!
ReplyDeleteThe cemetery was probably the best part of the afternoon. The kids were horrible at the restaurant and one threw up all over the place. Then we stopped at Walmart for prescriptions and by the time they finally got them filled, after giving me a lot of empty excuses, I was about ready to punch someone in the face. I am DONE with Walmart's pharmacy.
DeleteAn afternoon at the cemetery. And here I thought people didn't do that anymore. I would have picked a warmer day, though. It is snowing here in ol' Virginny.
ReplyDeleteIt was only a half hour or so and while the snow hadn't started yet, it was very cold and windy.
DeleteI was a flower girl too! I did drink some Mai Tai during the disco days that made me feel a bit to warm. It is raining here in So. Calif. We don't get snow here locally. We have to drive up to the mountains, 2 hours away.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers and the memories! I was never a flower girl in anyone's wedding. I don't even remember flower girls being in weddings back in the 60s & early 70s. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting my blog! I wonder just how many girls had their ears pierced at the Piercing Pagoda at the mall over the years. I read someplace they've been in business for 40 years!
ReplyDeleteNow you have me singing that Amy song. I have to agree with you on that cemetary thing. Around here this is a great weekend to stay inside, thanks to the weather.
