Thankful Thursday

Good morning, all! It's Thursday so I am linking up with the lovely Rebecca Jo @ Knit By God's Hand to reflect on all that I am thankful for today.

This week I am thankful...

** for frosty November mornings! It's true. I actually like these colder (not the bitter freezing temps of mid-winter) days when it gets dark earlier. I love that it brings everyone together inside in the evenings. I love seeing the welcoming light of home shining out through windows. I love the warm cozy glow of candles and the heavenly smells that go with them. I love a crackling fire to warm up in front of. I love fleecy throws and snuggly pups and rich, hearty, comfort foods. I love....well, you get the idea!

** for this morning and the end of a very long night. Y'all know I am often plagued by leg/foot cramps. Last night (just as A Million Little Things was coming on...grrrr) I was launched out of the cuddle chair by the sudden onset of cramps in both shins. Not so uncommon, but this time I just couldn't seem to get them stretched out. I broke out into a cold sweat almost immediately. I felt nauseous and very much like I was going to pass out. I'll even admit to moaning and crying out a few times. I made it to the kitchen and clung to the sink for a long time (it was cool and I had my forehead resting on it) before I thought I could get to the bed. I barely did, I was so out of it. I laid there for a while before falling asleep, but I was back up many times through the night as the cramps threatened to return. The cramps are still just on the fringe of things this morning, but so far so good. For that I am very thankful.

** for all of the brave men and women who have served this country throughout it's history. We have been making plans at work for a big Veterans' Day celebration this coming Monday and it has been humbling and awe-inspiring to learn the stories of our resident veterans. Just yesterday I went searching to find out if there were veterans in the dementia unit and discovered one man was an Army medic in Korea and did something worthy of earning a Bronze Star! I would love to hear the story. I hope to catch his family one day and ask.

** for having my little Boogie Man snuggled up beside me this morning watching his favorite Disney Junior shows while his mama is at the eye doctor's.

** for the end the current election season (though I suspect things will begin ramping up for the 2020 presidential campaigns very soon) and all the nasty commercials and piles of mailings and Facebook arguments. Now if only both sides and the news media would stop rehashing it.

** for the play date Colton and Mommy have today. My girl doesn't have many (true) friends. She has always been one to burn bridges whenever she got a boyfriend or if she does hang on to a friend, it always seems to be one who treats her badly or is a less than great influence in her life. The only "friends" she has these days are the wives and girlfriends of  her husband's friends and she doesn't really like them and they don't really like her.

The daughter of a former pastor of ours is starting a group of young moms and invited my daughter to an organizational meeting recently. She hit it off with one of the other moms and they both have boys the same age. That's who is coming over today. Better than the ones who do nothing but party and talk about her (and everyone else) behind her back. Praying they begin a solid friendship.

** for what looks to finally be the answer to what has been wrong with Tim for the last 6 or 7 years!  I'm feeling hopeful for the first time in ages that things just might eventually get better.

** a great night with my Bible study group. We never got to the lesson, but had a great discussion about the end times instead.

** as always, for each one of you! Have a blessed day and end to your week!

  1. Oh, praying for that friendship with your daughter. Its always nice to be surrounded by people who are in the same boat as you but can still lead you to better things.
UGHHHH - the cramps - that's the worst. Dumb question - have you tried pickle juice? it's the only thing that really helps Ricky when he gets calf cramps so badly.

    1. No, I haven't. I don't know if I can make myself drink it. I guess I should try. :/

  2. Hope they are on the right track with your husband's issues. Leg cramps are terrible. Leg warmers help me sometimes. Hope they don't come back today.

  3. Those cramps (Charley-horses) are the worst, aren't they? I can't begin to imagine the episode you endured last night in BOTH legs. Scary!

Your first paragraph is so beautiful … on account it speaks to those things I love most. (We've no fireplace, but a girl can dream!)

  4. I hope your daughter's new friend becomes a true friend!! I'm so sorry for your leg cramps. It sounds awful. I'm sure you know and everyone has already said to check your potassium and to drink more water. Happy frosty November to you!!
