Sunday Stealing: A Year-End Hodgepodge

Good morning and welcome to the last Sunday Stealing of the year. It sure went fast, didn't it?

Bev says:

People are still busy so this is a short one, stolen from Joyce of "From This Side of the Pond."

1. Where have you found unexpected magic or delight this holiday season?
I can't say it was unexpected, but I have certainly delighted in watching our youngest grandson experience Christmas. Is there anything better than the innocent wonder of children?

2. What's your favorite type of holiday gathering? Will you/have you gathered in your favorite way this month?
I'm not much for big crowds and trying to think of things to say to people I don't know all that well, so I like small gatherings of family or friends and I've been blessed to get together that way several times this month.

3. Time has named 'The Silence Breakers' (women who came forward with stories of harassment)  'person of the year' for 2017. Would you agree? If not, who do you think deserves the title?
I don't know who I feel should receive that honor, but I don't really agree with "the silence breakers." I'm absolutely in favor of men (or anyone) being held accountable if they are out of line sexually in the workplace (or anywhere), but the definition of "harassment" is so loosey-goosey that men are being accused for the smallest of things. Then there is the thing about our legal system where the accused is supposed to be presumed innocent until they have their day in court. Most of the men who are accused are having their lives destroyed without anything more than the say-so of someone. It stinks of a witch hunt. I just think we should proceed with a bit more caution, because I am afraid some innocent men are losing everything.

4. How did you spend your time this year? Are you happy about that? Elaborate. I spent a LOT of time putting our daughter's wedding together. I spent a LOT of time in the company of our youngest grandson...cuddling and enjoying having a baby to hold. I spent a LOT of time dealing with some personal things in my times with God. I am happy about all of those things. The one thing I'm not so happy about is the amount of time I spent online. I really need to cut back.

5. Bid farewell to 2017 in ten words or less.
I'm thankful for changes, growth, and joy 2017 brought us.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  The one thing I hope that 2018 brings to all of us is a return of peace, love, and understanding of one another...Of being kind to one another instead of angry and hateful and violent.

Be sure to visit the Sunday Stealing site to find the links to more players' answers or to join in the fun yourself.

Happy New Year to you and yours!
May 2018 be a year of love,health,
prosperity, and contentment.
Peace out.

  1. #1: That's so sweet! I saw a video on the news this morning of a toddler opening a gift and inside was a banana. The kid loves bananas. He kept waving it around. It was his favorite present. Made me happy.

#3: I had a long conversation about this with my friend, Kathy. Neither of us wanted Al Franken to resign, and she took that to mean I agreed with her that what he did wasn't "that bad." I thought that photo of him w/the sleeping girl was "that bad." I thought it was despicable. But I thought he should have gone before the ethics committee. That's what it's for. I'd like to see rules evenly enforced. All that said, this is long overdue. It's going to be messy, but that's how change can be.

    1. Sorry to say that the problem with the ethics committee is that it’s turned a blind eye to abusive behavior. Many female aides have seen this happen.

    2. I've seen that banana video. It's so cute!

I definitely don't agree with the behavior of the men are being accused of (and Franken is one of the most blatant with photos and all), I just wish like you, Gal, that everything would go through all the legal steps so we are sure each man is guilty.

    3. Then, Ms. Zip, now is the time to fix the ethics committee, not bypass it. We can fix things. That's what this is all about!

  2. #3 is challenging--ultimately, I hope there is an awareness and change in behavior.

You have the nicest #6. Happy New Year!

    1. That is the truth! I hope along with you that awareness and change come from this mess.

  3. I also don't like crowds and I do not like "small talk"...even if it is family.

  4. #2 ... totally! I've only one acquaintance who thrives amid the 'teflon' crowd.
#6? From your lips to God's ears, my friend.
    Happy New Year!

  5. Regarding #3, I get it that you’re worried that the accusations will get out of hand and some relatively innocent men will get hurt. That's regrettable and it probably will happen. But millions of women have been subjected to this crap for DECADES (eons?) and nobody much worried about them. (I was one of them.) So, are you arguing that a few men who may lose their jobs are more important than millions of women? I'm pretty sure these jerks who are finally getting what they deserve think they are more important than all of those women. Besides, they're just losing their jobs. They aren't going to jail - yet. Innocent until proven guilty is for juris prudence, not public opinion or corporate profits. And your #6 is nice. Unfortunately, I am with Bev on that. No hope. Nuclear war before 2018 is up, bet on it.

    1. I'm absolutely not saying anyone is more important than anyone else and I agree that the "good old boys club" mentality has got to go. I just think it should be done legally and with all i's dotted and t's crossed so hopefully it can't be undone later. I don't believe even one innocent man deserves to have his life destroyed as collateral damage...and chances are it's not just his life, but his wife and children's lives, too. And no, no woman who has been subjected to harassment or worse deserves that, either, but two wrongs don't make a right.

Nope, not taking that bet. I'll just keep hoping and praying that's not the case.

    2. I don't know your history but being "one of those women" who suffered in silence, I know how much my life was ruined - utterly, totally, and completely - by that "good ol' boys club" mentality, and if losing a job is all that happens to them, so be it. It is less than they deserve and I have serious doubts that there is such a thing as an "innocent" man where this issue is concerned. Smoke makes fire and I believe any woman who says something happened over any man who says it didn't. Sometimes it takes a little "collateral damage" (a term I despise) to create needed change. But that's just me and obviously this is a loaded topic we will not agree on, and I have no wish to hijack your blog.

    3. No, we probably won't see things the same, but it's good that we can share and hear each other. There isn't enough of that in the world these days. I know you're expecting doom in 2018, but my hope is that you are pleasantly surprised and blessed by what comes your way. :)

  6. #3 is a hot button, as it should be because it is a deep pit of hypocracy in our national character. The men who do these things, yes all of them from groppers to rapists, have got s disturbing habit of repeat offenses. And they wield the power over their victims, who have suffered in silence. Yes, I am one of them and so were two of my relatives... Monstrous, and wide spread, this sin. And it’s bad for the country, and very bad for women.

    1. I'm definitely not disagreeing with you Zippi. My heart breaks for women who are victimized and I am sorry that you were one of them. I understand your strong feelings.

  7. I so agree with your random. If only people would love one another and embrace each person as they are! Happy new year to you and yours!
