2. Have you hosted any outdoor summer parties this year? We've had two family cookouts, but that's it. Attended any? No, we just don't go much of anywhere or do much of anything because of my husband's health. He forces himself to work long hours, but then when he is home he doesn't feel well at all and just wants to watch TV or sleep. It's a rare thing these days when he agrees to go somewhere. What makes for a great outdoor party? People you enjoy being around, good weather, good conversation and fun games. Food and drinks probably matter to a lot of people but not so much to me.
3. What does freedom mean to you? The ability to live my life as I choose and express myself without government interference...as long as it doesn't cause harm to anyone else....and I am not talking about the "hurt feelings" so prevalent in the news. I am talking about real harm. We've become so ridiculous about banning everything that hurts someone's feelings...hurt feelings are a part of life. We are not going to like everyone or everything that everyone says and does, nor are they always going to like us and what we say and do.
4. July is National Cell Phone Courtesy month...what annoys you most about people's cell phone habits? Number one on the list is texting while driving. Someone ran my daughter off the road yesterday (and she had the baby with her) because he was texting and not paying attention. Had she not been able to swerve right into a field, he would have hit her head-on. To make it worse, he never even stopped. Number two would be texting, checking Facebook, etc. while I'm talking to you.
5. What's your current summer anthem? I don't really seem to have one yet, but this song is really fun and makes me smile.
6. Insert your own random thought here. There were several things I had planned to do this morning (x-rays, drop something at work, etc.) but here it is 9:30 and I'm still sitting here in my pj's. It was a rough night...couldn't fall asleep, tossed and turned when I did, and finally woke up feeling like I'm trapped in the body of a 100-year-old woman. I have no one to blame but myself.
I've shared that my doctor put me on a diet pill at the end of May and that it does a very good job of suppressing my appetite, but I have also been trying to if not eliminate (because that's really hard), at least cut way back on processed foods. I know several people who have a new lease on life from doing just that and nothing else.
Anyway...I mindlessly ate a handful of ranch flavored Fritos last night. Ugh. I know better! Lots of foods can make me feel blah, but some are worse than others and I know Fritos are one of the absolute worst...I just didn't think the small amount I ate would make much difference. So lesson learned and note to self: DO NOT EAT FRITOS. EVER.

a problem with the link buttons today.
About your hot buttons: I'm pretty sure that would be a hot button for me too. I'm glad you said something to your daughter. Maybe she'll think about that and how much you're doing for her. As for the food that makes you feel horrid, there are several that I have to avoid altogether. Cheetos (quick fried to a crackly crunch) are the best ever tasting anything! But I can't touch them or Fritos or anything that has 'modified food starch' or 'monosodium glutamate' in it and feel so much better when I eat gluten free. I got tired of living with a headache and feeling horrible.
ReplyDeleteI don't seem to have a gluten intolerance, but I know that no junk food leaves me feeling great, but there is something in Fritos that makes them the worst. I wonder which ingredient it is?
DeleteIt's sad that things like Fritos and Cheetos and Cool Ranch Doritos (wow, I wasn't intending to rhyme, but it's sort of melodious) taste so very good and are so very unhealthy for us.
ReplyDeleteThat summer job question would have been a hot button issue for me as well. Makes my blood boil just thinking about it.
Yes, it stinks that all the things we love to treat ourselves to are so bad for us.
DeleteThanks for the validation. My daughter and I had a rather tumultuous relationship right up until she moved out of the house last year. It's only improved since she moved and became a mom herself. So sometimes I question my feelings about things with her.
I am the same way with certain foods. They sound good to me, but make me feel awful after I eat them. Sometimes I'm weak and eat them anyway, and always regret it. Gone are the days I could eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted! I'm glad your daughter and baby weren't injured. With all the marketing and pr you'd think everyone would stay off their phones while driving, but I still see it every day. Good luck with the wedding! Emotions definitely run high : )
ReplyDelete"Weak and eat them anyway." That was me with the Fritos. I know how they make me feel, but I didn't eat very many so I thought it would be okay. I guess it hit harder because I've pretty much eliminated junk from my diet.
DeleteYou'd think the coverage would wake people up to the dangers of driving and texting, but no. My daughter's only stopped doing it since she became a mom. My son still does it. It's not just the younger ones, either. I see people our age and older doing it, too!
Ditto on the 'hot' buttons! Some people must have a pretty elevated opinion of themselves, to cast judgement on others.
ReplyDelete... Now I'm wanting me some Fritos. :)
Unfortunately, I have someone like that in the family to deal with and it frustrates me so. I don't know if she has an elevated opinion of herself or that, like bullies, tearing others down makes her feel bigger.
DeleteSkip the Fritos, they are toxic!
"Without government interference" - I wish!
ReplyDeleteIt's a dream. LOL
DeleteYour Freedom answer was very good. Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your HP!! I agree with you on so many points!!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds....
DeleteDisney always has the best fireworks. Oh my, your daughter would have pushed my button too! Glad your daughter was okay after being run off the road. Why can't people just drive!!! Cute song, thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI knew Disney used to but it's been years and years since I was last there. Yeah...she pretty much sledgehammered my button. I don't know why people are so stupid about texting and driving. You'd think the kids, at least, would be smarter since they see so many of their friends killed that way. Glad you liked the song. :)
