Thankful Thursday

I'm linking up with Rebecca Jo @ Knit By God's Hand today for the first Thankful Thursday of 2020. Feel free to join in and link up with us. The act of intentionally looking for our blessings and sharing them with others grows the heart and deepens our contentment and joy in life.

This week I am thankful...

** that my boss's husband is "ok" for now. He had another heart attack last Friday (I just found out yesterday) and nearly died. That marks the second time in the last couple of months! This time they've found a blockage on the back of his heart. It's a blockage that is usually called the "widow maker" as it often goes undetected until there is a major heart event and it's too late. Everyone I know who has had this blockage has had open-heart surgery to correct it and they are doing fine. In my boss's husband's case, the doctors (I'm thinking it's probably the insurance company) have decided to simply put another shunt in.

** that while I would never wish my boss's husband health problems, I am grateful for the fact that it is keeping my boss out of work this week. I didn't have to come back from the holidays to her harping on me for anything and everything.

** for a new year and the new beginning or fresh start that it symbolizes. I don't make New Year's resolutions, but I do have things in mind that I want to accomplish, change or work on. The number one thing being my relationship with God. I have been a bit lazy about it during the past year. It is past time to get back on track and move even deeper.

** the grandkids seem to be getting a little bit better. They all came down sick last weekend just in time for our Christmas gathering and these days you kind of worry more than you used to with all the super bugs out there.

** Tim brought all the Christmas boxes in for me yesterday. I'm going to start the undecorating tonight and finish it up tomorrow.

** for the fun I've had with my co-workers during the holidays. We've laughed a lot and that has made it a lot easier to be, if not happy, at least content while working through the holidays.

I also appreciate the confirmation I get from them about things I see at work or things that I think are wrong. It's always nice to know it isn't just you, that others see a problem, too. (As with my problems with my boss. It's been shown to me in the last couple of weeks that it isn't just me. Others, that I thought were fine with her, are definitely not...due to the way she treats them as well. I'm sorry they have to deal with her attitude, but there is comfort in knowing I'm not alone.)

** this was the last week of no Bible study. We are back to normal next week. So God, please...no snow to cause it to be cancelled!

** we are just about out of all the tempting Christmas goodies.

** that there is a good bit of ham left. I will be making ham & bean soup tomorrow. Yum! It's the best part of having ham for Christmas.

** to start a new faith planner and a new journal. It's exhilarating to open a book to a clean, fresh page. Oh, the possibilities!

** for God who is patient and forgiving while we try over and over to get it right.

** for each one of you!

  1. Hi Stacy! So much to be thankful for in the new year. Sounds like you have a good attitude and look for the best, even in challenging situations. God bless you with a wonderful year, and help with those challenges. See you again soon!

  3. OHHH - I'm gonna need you to join in with me the 3rd Wednesday of the month to show off that new planner!!! :)
I'm excited to get back to routine with my youth kids & bible study as well.
I feel like you just posted you were thankful that the hubs brought in the boxes of decorations. That always goes so fast.
Glad the grands are feeling better... & so scary for your boss. But I get it - the ease of not having someone harp on you so you can ease back into the work schedule after the holidays.

    1. I got the faith one. I'm not sure if I'm going to love it or not. It will be great for tracking my bible reading, but there isn't much room for calender stuff. I may need a regular mini to keep in my purse and keep myself organized.

  4. I wonder if your boss acts the way she does because she has so much going on at home. I mean...it stinks for everyone, but I would be worried. I pray he will be ok.
Enjoy your Bible study! So much to be thankful for!

    1. Unfortunately, no. My boss was miserable long before the health issues with her husband. People who have been there for years and years tell me she has always been this way. She actually gets NICER when something is going on with her husband.

    1. I like ham, but my favorite thing about ham is the leftovers to make ham and bean soup. It's a favorite of mine.

Happy New Year back at you, Cathy!

  6. I finished packing Christmas away this morning. Now we just have to wait for someone younger to help us heft them up into the loft in the shed. Neither of us can climb up there anymore. Ham and bean soup sounds SO good. I put three packages of ham in the freezer to bring out later for yummy goodness. Happy new year, Stacy!

    1. I'm pretty sure we are coming to the days of needing some help getting the stuff put away. Maybe another couple of years. Tim still tries to do stuff he used to do and sometimes he just does it himself because he gets so impatient with others. Sigh. He's really going to hurt himself one of these days.

We have plenty of ham leftover. I'll make the soup and still have some ham left to freeze for later.

  7. I know exactly what you mean about others' experiencing some of the same 'stuff' from your boss. Oddly comforting, isn't it? Now, I need to know where I can buy some of the stoneware in your delightful new header. Love it!

    1. I have no idea about the stoneware. It's just a picture I found through Google. lol

And yes, it is comforting to find you aren't the only one, though I am sorry anyone else has to put up with it.
