Saturday 9: Go Where Baby Lives

Go Where Baby Lives (1957)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here

1) The lyrics tell us that the girl of his dreams lives up on a hill. Is there a hill near your home? Or is the terrain pretty flat where you are?  Is there a hill near my home? Honey, there are mountains near my home. I live in the area of southwestern PA known as the Laurel Highlands.

2) Another clue to her whereabouts is that she's about a mile from town. Will you be staying close to home this weekend, or will you be traveling a mile or more?
Weather permitting, I'll be traveling further than a mile. My mom and I are hoping to check out the Habitat for Humanity resale store and several thrift shops tomorrow (Saturday, as I'm answering on Friday night).

3) Sam admits she's crazy about the sax solo. Is there a particular musical instrument that you love to listen to?
Not really. I enjoy hearing any instrument that is well played.

4) This is the only record The Strollers made for States, a company based out of Chicago. States was only in existence for five years (1952-57) and this was the 63rd or 64 records released before they went out of business. Tell us about a business in your neighborhood that recently closed their doors.  I live in a mostly residential area and it's been a long time since any of the few businesses closed, but I think it was a restaurant that was the most recent (and it was still several years ago).

5) More than 60 years after its initial release, this song enjoyed new popularity when Xfinity used it in commercials for their wifi. What company is your internet service provider? Are you happy with it?
Xfinity. I like them. I hate how expensive they are. I am thinking of going to Boost Mobile, who I have my phone through. My daughter and sil get their wifi through Boost and it's still Xfinity, but it's only $50/month.

6) In researching this week's song, Sam googled "strollers" and was surprised to discover how many different types of baby buggies are available today. When did you most recently push a child in a stroller?  Probably last year. Our youngest grandson was still willing to ride in one then. So far, I haven't had the chance to push his baby sister in one.

7) In 1957, the year this song was released, President Eisenhower celebrated his second inaugural with a parade featuring more than 50 marching bands. The mercury never quite reached 45º that day. How's the weather outside your front door?  WET.  It has been raining all day (Friday) and is supposed to keep raining all night, keep raining on Saturday and eventually turn into snow.

8) One of the best-selling books of 1957 was Peyton Place. This steamy saga of small town life launched two films, two television series, and several made-for-tv movies. Is there a book that you enjoyed that was successfully turned to a movie?  Little Women and Gone With the Wind are the only two I can think of that didn't suck.

9) A Peyton Place-inspired question: Can a man be physically unfaithful to a woman, but still love her?
I'm sure many men believe it to be so and many women want to believe it's so, but I believe real love does NOT allow for that.

If you enjoy today's questions, stop by the Saturday 9 site to join in the fun yourself and find links to others who are playing.

  1. #8 -- I forgot Little Women! I've seen all four movie versions, and enjoyed each one.

  2. I used to be a classic film blogger, so I know movies. There are actually quite a few novels that were turned in to successful movies---To Kill a Mockingbird, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939 version), The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone to name just a few. Oh, and of course, there is Les Miserables (the 1978 version is my favorite)

I am so with you on question #9!!

You know I grew up in SW Pennsylvania. Occasionally, we would go to Laurel Mountain. We went in the summer, as we enjoyed going to some lake there. We also used to go to some restaurant called The Oakhurst Tea Room. I think it was in Somerset.

    Blessings,
    Patti

    1. I know there were plenty of successful movies, but I didn't necessarily like them. Misery, for example. I just read TKAMB a few years ago and I've never seen the movie, so I don't know how I feel about that one. On the whole, though, I've been disappointed with movies if I've read the book.

    2. I forgot to mention, the Oakhurst is still around. It got new owners a couple of years ago who were supposed to revamp it a bit, but I haven't ever heard any reviews. It's always been an extremely popular smorgasbord. At one time it was definitely a staple of life in the area...and yes, it is in Somerset.

  3. Seattle is a very hilly area, lots of straight up and down, plus long winding hills. And we have the Cascade Mountain Range to the east and the Olympic Mountain Range to the west. My youngest daughter lives just northeast of Philadelphia. The areas of Pennsylvania we've visited are just beautiful!

    1. Hi! Thanks for visiting. A classmate used to post the most gorgeous photos of Seattle on Facebook and I decided it's a place I need to visit someday. In some ways I think the climate is similar. Ours has changed since I was a kid and we now have many overcast days and a lot more rain. A few years ago we even had the distinction of being cloudier than Seattle. It must have something to do with the mountains in both places.

  7. I know what you mean about being hilly, our corporate head quarters is in Monroeville and before I retired I used to be out there 3 or 4 times a year.

  8. Now I want to see Little Women! Tom found a door for a song at the Habitat for Humanity store in Montgomery -- and turned it into a top for the workbench he made. Love that place!
