In the meantime, I'm really kicking around the idea of dropping back to part-time, which would put me in the dementia unit all the time and while still technically under my boss's supervision, I'd rarely have to see her or interact with her. I need to talk to Tim, though, and do some number crunching to see if it would be feasible to basically cut my pay in half before I could approach my boss and see if she'd even allow me to do it...especially since I will have to give some nebulous reason about needing to be home more rather than the truth, that I simply can't stand working with her.
Anyway, on to some random, just-for-fun, questions I found on an apparently defunct site.
1. What is the best book you have ever read? Other than the Bible, how does one choose the single best book they've ever read? I have several favorites...Little Women, Lottery, Northern Lights...to name just a couple. Why did you like it? I tend to like books that grab you right from the beginning, have characters that feel real, and I love when the writer is very gifted in description and can paint a picture with words that makes you feel like you are right there.
2. What is your favorite kind of weather? Sunny and 75 degrees. Why? It's not too hot. It's not too cold. There's no snow/ice/rain/mud/wind/hail/or whatever to muck things up and ruin plans.
3. If you had $100,000, how would you spend it? First, I'd pay the dang taxes on it. Then I'd pay off all our debt and I'd probably put what was left toward a new truck for Tim.
4. Did you ever meet a famous person? I've "met" a few over the years. Bill Clinton, tons of Steeler football players, Cathy Rigby (Olympic gymnast in the 70's), quite a few Christian musicians, a few more politicians, and my personal favorite, Toby Keith.
5. Were you ever in a helicopter, limousine, racecar, hot-air balloon, submarine, horse-drawn carriage? Yes, to helicopter, submarine, and horse-drawn carriage. The helicopter was years ago when my family lived in a wildlife preserve and were friends with some of the news guys from Pittsburgh. They used to land the helicopter in field every now and then and take us for rides. I've been in 2 submarines, both set up as museum exhibits and floating on top of the water. And I've been on many horse-drawn carriage rides, the most memorable being on the occasion of our first anniversary. We took a nighttime ride around downtown Orlando and Church Street Station. Lovely.
Enjoy your Friday....don't spend it all counting down to the weekend! I'm working the 12-8 shift today so will be heading to work in a couple of hours, then it's my weekend off. Hooray!
See you tomorrow for Saturday 9!
Good luck making the decision about part time. Sometimes, you end up making more than you thought when you break down lunches & taxes that are in a different bracket. I'm sure you'll do what is best - for your household & for your sanity.
ReplyDeleteI really need to read Little Women.
I am thinking about all of that, trust me!
DeleteI never considered myself claustrophobic until I took a submarine ride -- at Disneyworld of all places. Wonder if sailors aren't given all sorts of psychological testing before being assigned to a 'real' sub. Love your response to "Why" in #1. Any more, if I can't relate to at least one of the characters on some level, I won't bother.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of the submarine ride at Disney World. I've been on that one, too! I would think they have to check sailors out before sending them off in a sub for weeks or months at a time. At least I would hope so. You wouldn't want to be way down deep and have someone freaking out.
DeleteGood luck on the job hunt...when my husband was a federal gvt. chaplain, we met a lot of people; Billy Graham and his son, President Obama, President Bush (both), just to name a few.
ReplyDeleteTry to have a good day, Stacy. smiles
I didn't get to meet Mr. Graham, but I did meet a lot of the Christian musicians and a few other bigger Christian names when there was a Graham Crusade in our town. We weren't big enough to get the man himself.
DeleteFun answers. So sorry to hear that your boss is so tough. I have had bosses like then. Hope you can find a better job soon. I haven't met any famous people that I recall, except our U.S. Senator from Arizona - Jeff Flake. Interesting guy. I taught his son in high school You should google him. I think he might run for president someday. Have a good weekend, Stacy!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he is an interesting guy, but I have to giggle at his name. Can you imagine...FLAKE FOR PRESIDENT! The whole world would be saying the U.S. is run by a flake. lol
DeleteI do hope you will be able to financially swing dropping back to part-time. I know you are a blessing to the patients in the dementia unit, so if you could stay there, yet be away from a problem boss, that would be good.
ReplyDeleteLiving in our state's capital, it's relatively a common thing to run into government officials around town. I've met one of our governors and one of our senators.
Have a great weekend,
Patti
Thanks, Patti. I met most of the politicians when I was working for the GOP back in 2012. I was excited then, but now that I have a better understanding of how it all works I'm not terribly thrilled with any politicians.
DeleteGlad you have the weekend off and sure hope the job situation works itself out! Have you heard of the website Indeed? You can post your resume for free and job openings show up in your email. I haven't thought of Church Street Station for years. It is long gone now. Used to be a fun destination in Orlando.
ReplyDeleteLOL...I found my current job through Indeed and that is where I am looking. I don't know if it is the same elsewhere, but very few businesses post jobs in the papers these days. It's all online and Indeed seems to be the #1 place. Oh, I didn't know Church Street Station was gone. That makes me sad. It was fun to have all those theme restaurants and nightclubs to choose from...plus all the shops and such.
DeleteI assume the ones at work do not read your blog.
ReplyDeleteNope. I don't share my blog with anyone in my "real" life. Someone could find me if they really wanted to, but I can't imagine anyone from work would fall into that category.
DeleteGood. I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to say the same back, but I can't figure it out...who are you? Do I read your blog?
DeleteI enjoy reading your blog and good luck with the job situation.
