Saturday 9: Cold As Ice

The day is winding down and I am done for now. Everything is ready for our family Christmas tomorrow but the last of the food. The ham is in the oven. I will turn it on low before I go to bed to slow roast to perfection overnight. In the morning I will throw together a taco salad and bake the au gratin potatoes. We've had good news and our son and his family will be able to come early enough for dinner thanks to a last minute schedule change at work for his wife.

This girl is finally going to get to have her Christmas and I can't wait! I love watching everyone open their gifts and finding out if I did as well as I hope I did finding each of them the perfect gifts. Some years they make it easy by dropping hints or flat-out telling me what they'd like, but other years, like this one, they leave me clueless and I have to wrack my brain and spend hours searching.

Anyway, as I sit here enjoying a few quiet moments, I have time to answer the Saturday 9 questions so, here we go! (Great song to wrap up the year with, Sam! I like it, though it was never a favorite, yet it takes me back to the winter of 1977 faster than any other song.)

Saturday 9: Cold as Ice (1977)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Our last Saturday 9 of 2019. Thank you for another great year, everyone!

1) Look back on 2019 and share a happy moment.  There were quite a few this year, but I'd guess at the top of the list would be the arrival of our youngest grandchild, Leah, and the cruise we took with friends to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary.

2) As 2019 ends, are you making any New Year's resolutions for 2020?  Nothing official, though I am hoping to make a better effort to spend time with the Lord every day.

3) Tell us about an obstacle or challenge you faced in 2019.  Every day that I had to deal with my boss was a challenge. She should not be a boss. She "motivates" her staff through bullying and belittling. Being talked to and treated like you're a slightly mentally challenged 5-year-old gets old real quick.

4) Is it "cold as ice" outside where you are today? HA! No. It's supposed to be close to 60 degrees.

5) Foreigner is this week's featured artist. The band formed in New York City. If you were to travel to New York City, what would you be sure to see?  The 9-11 memorial where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood. Oh, and a Broadway playl

6) The band went by the name Trigger. They changed it because their prospective record label was already auditioning a different group named Trigger. They settled on Foreigner because half the members were foreign -- from England. If you received a free, round-trip airline ticket to any foreign country, where would you go?  I have always wanted to see the antiquities of the Middle East, so Egypt and Israel.

7) In 1977, when this song was popular, Star Wars was breaking all box office records. The Spy Who Loved Me, a James Bond movie, was also a 1977 hit. Which film series do you prefer: Star Wars or James Bond?  I guess it would be the James Bond series. I haven't really kept up with Star Wars, though I do like the original 3 movies.

8) In 1977, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak incorporated Apple. Are you answering these 9 questions on an Apple product (PC, laptop, pad or phone)?  No Apple products here. My first computer experiences were with an old MacIntosh. I hated that thing and have stayed away from Apple products ever since.

9) Random question: What was the last thing you thought of as you dozed off last night?  That I've got to get back to eating healthy...right after this weekend and it's Christmas celebrations are over.

  1. I have had bosses like yours. No fun at all! I really like our current principal - my boss at the high school where I teach. She pretty much leaves me alone to do my job. I am so sorry your boss is challenging. I hope that challenge gets better in the new year. Will look forward to reading about your family Christmas Day soon.

    1. It seems everyone has had a boss like mine at one time or another. She is my first. I could have done without ever having had the experience. My husband keeps telling me I don't have to put up with it and should go above her and report it. That's probably how it SHOULD work, but I'm sure that's not how it WOULD work at my place of employment. Absolutely no one likes her, she isn't in the union due to being management, but I think they are just biding their time till she retires. All reporting her would do is make my life more miserable. He also says to quit, but I won't do that if I don't have another job lined up.

  2. That is a very cute baby, you know!

Eating healthy! Yes! I found last week, while celebrating on vacation, my taste buds enjoyed it but my gastrointestinal tract rebelled.

    1. Yeah, I know. ;)

I don't have that trouble, but I know certain foods before bed give me strange dreams and lots of foods make my body ache something terrible.

  4. What an adorable baby girl! No Apple products in our home, either. I can't wait to see your photos; already, my curiosity's piqued about the 'perfect' gifts you chose. I used to feel just like that -- some hits, some misses but great fun just the same.

    1. I don't think I have many photos of everyone with their "perfect" gift...it was total chaos! Wait till you see the pictures. lol It was going to go slow so we could all see what everyone got, but our daughter did the passing out and she is worse than the kids and just kept passing them out. No time even to look at and admire the gift, just here's another one! I do think most people were happy with what they got, though.
