10 On Tuesday

1. It looks like the big weather that has been making its way across the country is going to be mostly a non-event here. Temps are in the 30's with windchills in the 20's, but we shouldn't see more than an inch or so of snow.

2. Not excited about having to work today and tomorrow.

3. I won't be taking down the Christmas decorations on New Year's Day like usual. I need to ask Tim to bring the boxes in, though, so I can start working on it a bit here and there and finish on Friday, my day off.

4. We need to take down the twin beds in the guestroom. I ordered a new one that has storage and a trundle bed underneath. It will provide sleeping for two, but open up a lot of space for the grandchildren's toys.

5. My boss in the dementia unit gave me the next book I'll be reading. It's about finding moments of joy in alzheimers.

6. Didn't hear from our daughter at all yesterday. That's unusual.

7. Our son is sending pictures of the things he's making on the wood lathe we got him. Lots of candlesticks. Ha!

8. Watching about the plans for tonight's celebrations in Times Square and also in Pittsburgh. You could not pay me enough to go to either one.

9. Wrote the last entry in my journal. Tomorrow I open the pages of a new one.

10. Wishing a very happy, safe, and blessed New Year to all of you!

  1. Wishing you a very Happy New Year...same here with the boxes and the Christmas things...although I just want to get it done and get my house back in order. Smiles

    1. I guess I'm ready to get back to normal. I need to anyway since that bed I ordered could arrive as early as Friday!

  2. Working on the holidays is not fun, but it is so important and I am grateful for people like you willing to do it. I know when Charly was in the hospital (56 days in 4 different hospitals - just two years ago) it was over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years and I was so very grateful for the kind and helpful people who were there on the holidays. I took my Christmas stuff down yesterday. Wow - that was a big job! The house now looks kind of naked without all the Christmas lights, trees and nativities. Oh well, good to get back to normal Happy New Year! See you again soon!

    1. I'm glad to be there for the residents and their families. I just wish my boss didn't dump EVERY holiday on me. Yes, the house does seem naked for a bit after the decorations come down...less cozy, somehow. Happy New Year!

  3. I agree with Deb. Working on the holidays isn't fun, but we are thankful for those who do it...and who do it with a smile, which I have no doubt, you do!

I won't take my Christmas stuff down until the end of February. Yep, you heard right. I decorate for Christmas/winter on December 1st, and I keep it up through the whole winter. March 1st, though, I am in spring mode (though the weather isn't), and I take winter down and put up spring.

That said, I don't put up a Christmas tree anymore. Most of my holiday decor isn't specifically Christmas. I do change out my flag and any pictures that say "Merry Christmas," and I will probably put away my nativity set. But all other red and green items will stay for 2 more months.

You will have to post about that book you'll be reading. Sounds interesting.

    Happy new year, Stacy!

    1. I don't think I know anyone else who leaves the decorations up all winter, but my sister-in-law used to leave her tree up all year and just change the decorations for each holiday or season.

Happy New Year to you and yours!

  5. I'm sorry you have to work on New Years Day. :( I like the new bed you'll be getting for the guest room. Now I'm looking at our guest room like, 'Hmmmm.' I hope you have a blessed New Year!

  6. Sorry you have to work - with my husband's job I have spent many holidays alone while he was at work. You are doing important work, though. Happy New Year.
