2. Our son called last night and asked if I wanted he and his wife to bring anything on the Fourth. Huh? We didn't make any plans since Tim and I are both working. Our daughter just asked if we wanted to throw some hotdogs and burgers on the grill when we get home...nothing "official." I guess he just figured we'd be doing something so now we are. I've got to hit the grocery store tonight and get more meat, the buns, pop, chips, etc. Mom will have to make bigger batches of potato salad and baked beans. Megan will have to make more room since there's a good chance we'll see some thunderstorms right about the time we're getting started. I'm thrilled our son initiated things. He never does that.
3. Scary that there are 12 cases of MRSA infections at Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital. Scary because these kids are more susceptible to stuff to begin with and MRSA is so resistant to antibiotics. When we had a resident at the nursing home with it, no one but the nurses and aides were even allowed to go in the room and the resident couldn't leave the room.
4. My fear of getting in the ocean is being confirmed as totally legit all over the place this summer. This morning's news shows film of a shark swimming right beside swimmers in Daytona...a day after a teenager was bitten by one at New Symrna Beach, just a few miles away. Yeahhhh, there is no way this chick is getting in the ocean. If the cruise ship sinks while I'm on vacation, you just might hear about the miracle of a woman walking on water! HA!
5. Good for Walmart changing their policy for e-cigarettes. You now have to be 21. All the other places that sell them need to do the same, but it's a start. We are having a lot of trouble in our area with teens using them.
6. Hot, hot, hot. I do not like humidity and we're already at humidity percentages in the 60's this morning. By this afternoon (and this is some serious honesty in weather forecasting) the WTAE meteorologist said the heat and humidity will be downright uncomfortable and "ANNOYING!" Got that right.
My hair by this afternoon. |
I am really missing my central air. |
8. Starting to wonder if we could manage if I only worked part-time. Going to have to put some thought into it after we get back from vacation. I don't know if it will work for us or not. I'm probably going to at least start looking around for another job, though. I love what I do, but I hate working weekends and most holidays. I feel like I'm missing out on so much with the family.
9. I read over the weekend about people in a little town not far from here who have turned their backyard into a designated sanctuary for lightning bugs. They have a huge old tree and they don't mow the grass around it or rake up the leaves in the winter...that all works to create a perfect habitat. The woman who lives there posted on a Facebook community group about it and invited everyone to stop by in the evenings and see it. She said it is incredible right now, which is the peak of the season, and it lights up with thousands of lights at night. Sort of like what I described happened a couple of weeks ago in the trees up at my mom's. Only on a much bigger scale. I want to drive over and see it some evening this week.
10. I was checking the garden while I watered it last night. There are little baby cucumbers, zucchinis, peppers, and tomatoes! I can't wait!
That's all that's on my mind this morning. Good thing, because I've got to get ready for work. Woohoo. I'm looking forward to that. I'm sure the drama will be continuing today and I'm also waiting to see if that person at the center of it all shows up today. She was supposed to work on the other side of the home yesterday until 4:00 and then come over to the dementia unit because none of the daylight staff would still be there. She went home "sick" and in tears after the meeting instead. I will be shocked if she doesn't quit.
I'll pray for you on a decision on working part time or finding a new one. I get the stress of feeling like everything in life gets pushed aside because of work.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're going to have a laid back family get together.
Oh man - that work situation - I always say, its really unbelievable what one bad apple can do to the whole bushel - the way one person can cause so much chaos & drag everyone through the mud with them. I'm sorry. Just try to keep your head up - keep Jesus the focus & hang in there!
Thank you. The girl called off today. Big surprise. Tomorrow is her scheduled day off. Thursday will be the day we see what's what, I guess.
DeleteGood thing you got a head's up from your son. Imagine if they just showed up and y'all were unprepared?!
ReplyDeleteReading between the lines, it sounds like in a short time (working there), you've become a valued team member. Deep breaths!
Yeah, that would have been a big surprise...for us and them! And not in a good way.
DeleteWell, I hope I'm valued at work, but who knows. The afternoon shift is ticked about the whole thing and stomping around in a bad mood. Ya know, being alone was one good thing about driving the bus!
Sounds like a good time on the 4th, when you two get home from work. Nice to have family gather for holidays. I miss it. Fingers crossed for you as you start looking for another job. Do please keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteIt will be nice when we get home, but I miss the all day family gatherings we usually do on the holidays and Tim HATES me working on them and the weekends. I'm sure I'll keep everyone posted about what I do job-wise.
