Good morning and happy Monday! I had to work this past weekend, but it was a pretty good weekend. Life in the dementia unit was calmer than it had been all last week and we were all able to relax a bit. And yesterday I had an older woman who was there to visit her sister tell me how much she appreciated the way I talk to the residents and have real relationships with them.
That kind of thing means a lot at any time, but this woman has a reputation among the staff as being very difficult and critical of everything and had just finished ripping into one of the CNA's (the one I have mentioned on here as not being very nice to residents and their families) so she was not exactly a happy camper at the time. That made it mean so much more to me that she was unhappy with her sister's care, but could notice that the residents are much more than a job to me. She ended up opening up and sharing all kinds of stories with me. That was so enjoyable! I think she is just lonely.
Tim didn't work yesterday so was finally able to get that tree he cut down back at the end of April all cut up and cleared away. Hooray! It had been lying out beside the driveway on my side of the drive. I was always worried I was going to back into it. He also put the WORX grass trimmer I had ordered and trimmed the yard and started edging the sidewalk.
I got the new trimmer for me because the one we had was a big professional, gas powered model. It was too much for me to handle and Tim just doesn't always have time or feel well enough these days to keep up with it. I wanted one I could use. He still has his gas one just in case he needs it, but he seemed pretty happy with my little "sissy" trimmer. LOL
Colton welcomed me home from work yesterday with another run down the sidewalk with arms flung wide, yelling "Nana!" I can't tell you how much that makes my day! We had to run to Walmart for groceries so he went with us so Megan could rest for a while. Little Leah is due next month and Mommy is getting pretty tired.
We laughed so much at Walmart. Colton was loud and proud of it the whole way through the store. He kept yelling and pointing stuff out and would get so excited. He flirted with the ladies and at one point, had a guy in his 30s or 40s (that you wouldn't expect this from) blowing raspberries back and forth. He does this Vanna White thing lately when he's showing you something...he spreads his arms wide like he's presenting it and either says, "Ta-da!" or "Here it is!" I am so glad it looks like he's going to be a talker like his mom rather than a non-talker like his daddy. (Seriously, love our son-in-law but he does not talk much at all. With anyone, not just us.)
Today it's back to work and at some point I'll get to hear what the union negotiated on our behalf and vote on it. I'm really hoping everyone votes for it. I don't want to go on strike, but I guess that might be what happens next if it's voted down.
After work a friend of Megan's who works at a kennel as a dog trainer is coming over with a dog for me to meet. She is grown, but younger and needs a home to save her from the shelter. They are trying to find a home so hard that Megan's friend is offering to give free training to help get her adapted and to help Daisy accept her. We'll see. I don't know if she's a good fit for us or not, but I think maybe if I turn her down, Megan and Cody will take her since she is already trained.
Well, I have to run. Y'all have a blessed and beautiful day!
Nice to have your efforts at work appreciated. Colton is a hoot with his Vanna thing going on! LOL I know he brings you so much joy! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteI bet Colton enjoyed that shopping trip even more than you did.
ReplyDeleteRicky's not a talker either... it always blows my mind. I guess I talk enough for both of us :)
I know those patients are more to you than just patience - they are so lucky to have you working with them. I know it gets frustrating some time but I truly feel like God led you to that position
How blessed you are to spend one-on-one time with Colton! Your patient's sister does sound a little lonely. And frustrated. What a heavy burden she must be caring. I'm sure you are a blessing to her.
ReplyDeletePS - Love the name 'Leah'!
