Sunday Stealing: A Thought Provoking Mother's Day

I'm linking up on this Mother's Day with our hostess, Bev, for Sunday Stealing...one of the fun-est memes around! Please be sure to pay a visit to the site if you enjoy the questions. You can find links to other bloggers playing along or join in the fun yourself!

Thought Provoking Questions

1. Do you own your things or do your things own you? I would say I own most of my things, but when it comes to books, it might be more touch and go than I want to admit. I love to read and I love to collect books and I have a really hard time letting go of a book if I enjoyed it.

2. Would you rather lose all of your old memories or never be able to make new ones?  I work in a dementia unit at a nursing home and I daily spend time with people who eventually end up with both situations as a part of their lives. Both are heartbreaking and can be dangerous. Neither one is appealing to me, thanks.

3. How do you deal with someone in a position of power who wants you to fail?  I go straight to God. I pray for them and for the situation. I pray for God to show me how to deal with them. It hasn't failed me yet. The answers might not come instantly, but they do come and the work relationship improves. And while I am waiting, I just keep doing the best I can and being nice to the person. People like that never expect kindness in return and it often takes the wind out of their sails.

4. What do you have that you cannot live without?  My relationship with God.

5. When you close your eyes what do you see?  The inside of my eyelids. What else?

6. What sustains you on a daily basis?  My faith and my family.

7. What are your top five personal values?  Honesty, integrity, kindness, patience, and loyalty.

8. Why must you love someone enough to let them go?  Because true love puts the needs of the other person ahead of its own. True love wants the best for the other person and wants the other person to be happy...even if it isn't with them. Plus, a love that is forced isn't love at all. Love is something freely given.

9. Do you ever celebrate the green lights? Yeah, I do sometimes. I'm not always a patient driver and I like to get where I'm going and not sit at lights.

10. What personal prisons have you built out of fears?  Other than not going in the ocean because of a fear of sharks, I can't think of anything. And I don't see that as much of a prison. I still go to the beach and I still go out on boats. Not swimming doesn't really bother me.

11. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?  Drive across the country on U.S. Route 30, the old Lincoln Highway.

12. Why are you, you?  I'm the culmination of who God created me to be, the circumstances in my life, and the choices I've made.

13. If you haven’t achieved it yet what do you have to lose?  Achieved what? My answer depends greatly on that.

14. What three words would you use to describe the last three months of your life?  Challenging, repetitive, unexciting.

15. Is it ever right to do the wrong thing?  Is it ever wrong to do the right thing?  In my book the answers are "no" and "no." I've told the small fib to spare someone's feelings in the past, but I don't believe that spares them in the long run so I don't do it any longer. Hard truths can be told gently and with love to soften them.

16. How would you describe ‘freedom’ in your own words?  Being able to make my own choices and live based on them.

17. What is the most important thing you could do right now in your personal life?  Make changes in my lifestyle and live healthier.

18. If you could ask one person, alive or dead, only one question, who would you ask and what would you ask?  I don't know which one, but I would choose one of the framers of the Constitution and ask them to explain exactly what they intended with their words...just to end all of the hateful fighting once and for all.

19. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?  Anything involving books or antiques.

That's all and I have to work tomorrow (Sunday) so it will be later in the day before I can get around to visit everyone. I'll leave you with this...

  2. #8. Right, dammit! (LOL)
As for #18, if you got an answer, "someone" would claim it was false news.

  3. Having 'been there, done that' I LOVE your response to #3. (Instead I walked away, but still struggle to let it go.) Because my memories are so priceless, yes, I'd trade all my tomorrow's. I'm still pondering what I'd say to #10.

  5. I took 15 differently than you. Like the simple and popular example of "Is it wrong to steal?" Yes. Is it wrong to steal to prevent the immediate starvation of yourself or your child? Or is it more wrong that one even has to ask that question because no one should be in a position where they have to decide between theft or death to make it to the next day? It's a very old philosophical question.

I've been on parts of the Old Lincoln Highway in Pennsylvania.

    Books are awesome!
