THE PERFECT FAN (1999)
Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.
1) In this song, a son thanks his mother for helping him grow up strong and confident. Who is the last person you thanked? What did they do for you? I'm doing this on Friday since it's my weekend to work, so that would be the cashier at Goodwill. She bagged all the books I bought.
2) Who was the last person to thank you for something? My mom. Since I'm working all weekend I dropped off the pretty planter full of flowers and plants I got her for Mother's Day.
3) This is from the Backstreet Boys' album Millennium, recorded and released in 1999. Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when 1999 turned into 2000? Yeah. People were so freaked out about Y2K that our church decided to host a New Year's Eve get-together...you know, just in case the world ended. We weren't worried about it, but were there because 1) we were both church officials and 2) it was a fun time with a lot of our friends...good food, conversation, and games.

4) This song was written by Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell. Brian voiced himself on an episode of PBS' Arthur. Arthur has been described as an "animated anthropomorphic aardvark" -- which can be difficult to say. Do you easily get tongue tied? Not really and when it does strike it's often on something simple. Go figure!
5) The French word for "mother" is "mère." What other French words do you know? I know several after 4 years of French....not enough to know how to put them together or understand someone who is speaking the language, but I recognize quite a few when I'm reading.
6) Mother's Day is a big holiday for card shops. So are birthdays, weddings, and St. Patrick's Day. Hallmark sells greetings for everything from "Congratulations on Your New Job" to "Happy Retirement." Who received the most recent card you bought? The family of a resident at the nursing home who passed away. I might have given Mom her flowers today, but she didn't get the card yet.
7) Have you put away your winter clothes yet? Hahahahahahaha! No, but I have been dragging the summer ones out day by day. I basically have piles all over the bedroom. Maybe Tuesday? Then again, maybe not. The highs are only to be in the 50s at the beginning of the week.
8) Mother Winters used to scold Sam for leaving her dirty dishes in the sink. Sam admits it: as a grown up, she's still a bit of a slob. Do lean toward "neat" or "messy?" Messy. Or maybe cluttered is the word. I tend to have more stuff (it's all good stuff that I use or it has sentimental value) than I have room for. I'm not a hoarder or anything. I do throw things away and thin the herd from time to time. I just need a bigger house.
9) To celebrate Mother's Day, Sam is giving away her mother's favorite: Hershey Bars. Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate or milk chocolate with almonds? How about Cookies 'n' Cream? That is actually my favorite Hershey treat, but if you're only giving away the chocolate ones I'll take the classic milk chocolate.

I'm a milk chocolate person myself, although I know the dark chocolate is better for me. Putting away winter clothes? I'm still wearing some of my winter clothes. Ha, ha. Great answers to these questions.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't been wearing my winter clothes, but with Monday's high supposed to be around 50, I guess I'll be wearing them a time or two yet.
DeleteGood answers! I haven't even looked at it yet, but am heading over there soon. Sorry you have to work this weekend. Wishing you a Happy Mother's Day. I had to work this weekend for 20 years because it is our Mayfaire art festival, a museum event. I couldn't go last year or this year because of my knees but next year will be different!!
ReplyDeleteThe Mayfaire would have been so much fun! I remember you posting pictures and really enjoyed seeing them. Working doesn't really bother me as my family gives a small gift or makes a call, but we've never been the type to do something big for the day. It's always been that way in both sides of the family.
DeleteMy sister called. She is taking my mother to brunch. They'll be using the reservation I made for my mother and I.
DeleteI will be batting cleanup. Pick up a Chicago-style pizza and watch the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament on television with my mother.
You are more than welcome. Maybe we can persuade my mother to make you a cup of matcha tea with her new Keurig coffee maker.
I'm so glad you buy books at Goodwill! I have dropped many a volume off but I worry. You see news stories about how much Goodwill has to dispose of (clothing wise) and I worried it extended to books. I like to think of my books as being "rehomed."
ReplyDeleteI don't know about disposing of stuff, but I've read about them going through and picking out the very best stuff to sell online. I'll admit I rarely find clothes there, but I also don't look very often. My trips usually include a quick pass of the household stuff to see if there is anything I can't resist, a quick look at purses and shoes, and then a long browsing session in the books. I got around 6 books for me yesterday and 4 for my grandson. I also snagged a Vera Bradley crossbody bag at the Salvation Army store.
Delete#8 I consider myself an organized chaos type of person
ReplyDeleteMmm...yeah, that's a pretty good description.
DeleteFour years of French. I’m impressed. I can make out French sometimes when reading because many words I have heard or they are similar to Spanish or maybe in context. Happy Mother’s Day to you. You’re blessed to still have your mom with you.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really retained much French to notice similarities, but I know Filipino friends of ours found it fairly easy to pick up Spanish because those two languages are very similar.
DeleteI like to thank my cashiers, as well. And, I'm invariably disappointed when they seem surprised by that. Love the way in which your church group ushered in the Millennium.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad that cashiers aren't used to kindness, I've been one and you are the public face of the store so customers usually dump on you. The Millennial New Year celebration was fun. I don't think anyone there really thought the world would come to a screeching halt, but it was a good excuse to get a big group together for a party!
DeleteSorry you have to work. Do you still enjoy it? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy it. It has it's problems and frustrations just like any job, but the satisfaction of making a difference overrides that.
DeleteYou just described me in #8! I am the exact same way. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend!

We should have bigger houses. We neeeeeed bigger houses. LOL
DeleteI'm cluttered borderline hoarder.
ReplyDeleteThin the herd. Lol!
ReplyDeleteSorry to be so late but it's never slowed down here. One fire out another starts.
I enjoyed reading all your post this time, from the top. You really are a sweet, thoughtful person who tries to make the world a better place. Take care and no lifting anyone the wrong way. Backs must be preserved! K? til next time. ♥!
