Saturday 9: Don't Envy Me (1963)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) What is it about you that you believe your friends and acquaintances envy? Maybe my ability to remain calm (or at least appear to).
2) Do you have a friend or acquaintance that you envy? Not in any serious way, but it would be nice to be in my friend, Fran's shoes once in a while. Whatever she and her husband need always seems to turn up just in time.
3) This song was not a hit, even though it was written and produced by the supersuccessful team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Tell us about a project you had great confidence in at the beginning, but didn't turn out as well as you'd hoped. Life. Sorry, having a bad morning here and I'm in a bit of a mood. That's the only thought I have at the moment.
4) George Hamilton is better known as an actor. He is proud of his performance in the 1960 movie Light in the Piazza. He played an Italian who romances an American girl on holiday in Florence. Did you ever find love while vacationing? No. We rarely took vacations when I was growing up and none after I was old enough to be interested in boys. Any vacations since then have been taken with my husband.
5) George had a small part in Godfather III. How many of the Godfather movies have you seen? Have you read the book? I don't think I've seen any of the Godfather movies. They aren't my cup of tea and while my husband will watch Scarface every single time it's on, the Godfather movies don't seem to hold the same appeal. It's also a "no" to the book. I didn't even know there was a book.
6) He's gotten a lot of publicity over the years for his personal life, including his 1966 romance with First Daughter Lynda Bird Johnson. At the time, she was living in the White House. Tell us about a memorable experience you had "meeting the parents." The only "memorable" one happened in college. I was dating a guy and we stayed out late then went to his house to watch TV. We fell asleep sitting on the sofa and I woke up in the morning to his parents walking in the front door. We weren't doing anything wrong, but it was truly awkward.
7) George is also known for his year-round tan. Have you ever used a tanning bed? Or self tanner? I may have tried some of that awful self tanning goo when I was a teenager. You know, back when it turned you orange, rubbed of on your clothes, and left horrible streaks on your skin.
8) In 1963, when this record was released, President Kennedy made a historic trip to Ireland. Have you ever visited the land of your ancestors? No, and it's doubtful that I ever will.
9) Random question -- The last of a batch of delicious chocolate chip cookies just fell on your kitchen floor. Would you eat it? Five second rule! Actually, it would depend greatly on the day, who had walked on the floor, if anything else had been going on, etc.
Now I'm jealous of Fran, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid of self tanner, because I've heard too many stories like yours.
Scarface is a guy's movie. I found it dopey and annoying, yet I know grown men who can recite it. Now the first two Godfather movies are very different. Much higher in intent and quality.
When I was in college I had to analyze the original Scarface with the remake... it was a challenge to write.
ReplyDeleteSorry your having a bad day... here's a virtural (((((hug)))))! Scarface..ugh the hubs watches it every time its on as well! Hope your day gets better!!
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of those shoot em films at all. And may I also offer you a {{{{Hug}}} for a brighter afternoon.!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your day's begun on a low note. I, too, have never seen any of the Godfather movies (or read the book). How I wish I might control my emotions/my facial expressions in stressful situations … no doubt, that's a huge asset in your profession.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you are having a bad day. I am not super happy right now either with something that is going on with work and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Loved your answers! Try to have a nice weekend!
