NATIONAL FROZEN YOGURT DAY
National Frozen Yogurt Day is observed annually on February 6th.
Frozen yogurt sales are increasing every year as people want a healthier alternative to ice cream. The explosion of flavors and topping choices add to the popularity of frozen yogurt.
Frozen yogurt was first developed 1970 in the United States as a soft-serve treat produced by H.P Hood called Frogurt. Humphreys and Dannon soon followed with their own versions of the treat. Its popularity grew in the 80s, mostly due to frozen yogurts “health food” status. Ice cream manufacturers soon caught on, offering low-fat options.
Frozen yogurt is again making a comeback as consumers have begun to prefer the tart taste of yogurt.

Terri says:
Frozen Yogurt Day was the most fun of the choices for today's first question. I have no idea why the creator chose a winter day to celebrate a frozen dessert, but here we are!! Let's talk about food today (one of my favorite subjects)!
1. Today, Wednesday, February 6th, is Frozen Yogurt Day! A cold dessert on what must be a very cold day for most of you reading this today! Actually, it's not. It's supposed to be in the 50s today! Do you enjoy frozen yogurt? I like it well enough when I have it, but I don't eat a lot of it or ice cream. Does it matter what the weather is? Not really, unless it is VERY cold. Like polar vortex cold. Otherwise, it's warm enough inside that cold desserts don't bother me. Share with us your favorite flavor and/or topping, please!! My favorite flavor is a custom creation at Coldstone Creamery...chocolate with bananas and pretzels mixed into it.
2. What food do you know you shouldn't eat but can't help yourself? Chips. I love salty, crunchy snacks and if I'm going to crave something that's what I'm going to crave.
3. If your life was a meal, what kind of meal would it be? Salad. Mostly plain old lettuce, but with some really good veggies mixed in, the occasional bite of chicken/beef/shrimp, and a bit of dressing to add some zing.
4. Do you like spicy food? Yes, as long as it's not too hot. Why or why not? I just like the taste of a little spice, but I don't find anything enjoyable about burning my mouth on it. What is the spiciest food you have ever eaten? Probably the hot sauce I tried in a little shop that only sells hot sauce on Chincoteague Island, VA. You only get one little drop on the tip of a toothpick to try and kids under 18 have to have their parents with them to give permission to try it. That stuff was HOT!
5. (Most of you know I have been sick with a cold.) What food do you eat or crave when you have a bad cold? I like comfort foods...rich, savory, starchy. Really rich chicken noodle soup with lots of noodles, chicken and noodles, beef stew, that sort of thing.
6. Please tell us something random about your week (and maybe it will involve food). Sorry, no good food stories to tell. I worked Sunday and late on Monday. I was off yesterday but went to Bible study...all meant I didn't do any cooking. Today is a 9-5 day so I will be cooking tonight...maybe salmon. Since I don't have any food stories, I'll leave you with a picture of Colton, who went to the zoo yesterday with his Mommy and Daddy.
He looks so little. I hope he enjoyed the zoo. Chocolate, bananas, and pretzels sounds like a great combination. I love crunch! Have a wonderful Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteHe is just 2 yrs old and he did love the zoo!
DeleteLooks like he enjoyed his day at the zoo.
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
I think he really had a wonderful time!
DeleteColton looks like he is enjoying the zoo. I like spicy foods but don't think I could try the hot sauce on Chincoteague Island...that must be really, really hot!
ReplyDeleteIt was! One drop was more than enough for me. It brought tears to my eyes and pain to my tongue.
DeleteLove
ReplyDeleteColton looks like a little man! How did he get so big so quick? Thanks for joining in today!! I enjoyed your answers and agree that it has to be really, really cold to not enjoy a frozen dessert!
ReplyDeleteI don't know! I sure wish he'd slow down!
DeleteOh my! Colton gets cuter every day! I'm all about chips … any kind of chips. Unfortunately, I can't control myself around them and the sodium content is always my undoing. Chip-aholic, party of one.
ReplyDeleteMake that party of 2!! LOL
Deleteawwwww! Cute little Colton looks like he is having a great time. I like chips, too, but usually with a sandwich. It's dangerous to just open a bag of chips and start eating because everybody knows you can't eat just one.
ReplyDeleteDo you put the chips in the sandwich? I know quite a few people who do, but I don't do it.
DeleteOh those picture pf Colton are so cute!!! Loved your answers! Enjoy the rest of your week.

I think so. ;) They invited me to go with them, but I had so much needing done around here that I just could go this time. I'll go somewhere fun when the weather gets nicer.
DeleteColdstone... I think all of ours closed up. My favorite there was their Apple Pie ala Coldstone... yum! Have a great week!
