Wednesday Medley: Happy National Sci-Fi Day

Today is  NATIONAL SCIENCE FICTION DAY

National Science Fiction Day is celebrated annually on January 2nd by millions of science fiction fans across the United States.  The date of January 2 was chosen for National Science Fiction Day as it corresponds with the birth date of famed science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.   National Science Fiction Day is recognized by the Hallmark Channel and the Scholastic Corporation.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Watch some classic science fiction t.v. shows or movies.  Start reading a science fiction novel. Use #ScienceFictionDay to post on social media.

1.  Will you observe National Science Fiction Day as recommended above?  Do you even like science fiction?  No, I won't be observing. I like some science fiction, but I'm not a big fan.
2.  Have you chosen a "word" for 2019?  Many people do. THIS QUIZ might help you find your word!!  No, I haven't. I'm still struggling to narrow it down. The quiz gave me a couple more words to kick around, but didn't help me choose. I love the jewelry, though!
3.  Did you stay up to see the new year in?  Are you happy or sad to see 2018 go?  I was awake, but I didn't want to be since I worked yesterday morning. My elderly neighbor had a close call and "entertained" the fire department on New Year's Eve from about 9:30 until just before midnight. She is fine, but put ashes from her wood stove in a garbage can earlier in the day and set it outside. When she went out in the evening with friends, she put the can in the garage. When they returned and opened the garage door, they found the space (and the whole house) filled with smoke. The garbage can was charred to a black lump and there was some damage from the heat, smoke, and water, but nothing too severe. She was very lucky.  Anyway, I'm neither happy nor sad to see 2018 go. There were some bad times, but also plenty of good times.
4.  I really enjoy the Tournament of Roses parade on New Year's Day but rarely get to sit and enjoy the entire parade because I am cooking.  Did you watch the parade?  Did you cook/eat the traditional foods (pork, black-eyed peas, kraut, greens...) to begin the new year?  I didn't get to see the parade since I was working. I'm going to look on Friday to see if I can watch it "On Demand" through our cable provider because my mom and stepdad were there. I'm wondering if I will be able to see them in the crowd (they had bleacher seats). I didn't cook because of the work thing, but I ordered the meal at work so had kielbasa, mashed potatoes, and kraut.
5.  I have to ask... Resolutions.  Did you make any or set some new goals for 2019?  Or do you even think about it?  I did. I shared them here on the blog as yesterday's post.
6.  Tell us something random about your week.  Tim sees the orthopedic doc tomorrow to get his foot checked. Hopefully, they will tell him it's healed enough to go back to wearing a regular shoe because he is beginning to complain about the walking boot quite a bit and refusing to wear it other than at work. Pray the bone is mended, if you would.

Linking up with our hostess, Terri, from Your Friend in Florida.

    1. Thank you, and yes, glad the neighbor is okay. I've known her all of my life and grew up with her kids.

  3. Thank God your neighbor's home was intact when she returned … and she didn't have little pets. (Scratching my head, 'why' she set it inside in the first place!)
    Prayers for Tim's recovery!

    1. I'm not sure what she was thinking other than she said the can sat outside most of the day and I guess she thought it was safe. A scary reminder that ashes can stay hot for a long time....though I am wondering why she put hot ashes in the can to begin with? Thanks for the prayers for Tim's foot.

    1. Thanks for the prayers. I'd like to think I wouldn't do what the neighbor did, but some days I wonder. LOL

    1. I don't typically do well with keeping resolutions, either. I'm referring to them as "good intentions" this year. I'm giving it my best shot, but not really expecting perfection and not beating myself up over it if I blow it. Kind of a kinder, gentler resolution. LOL

  6. Prayers lifted for Tim's foot! Do keep us posted! Thanks for joining in on the Medley! I enjoyed your answers, Stacy! Crazy, scary story about your neighbor's huge mistake! Who would do that? Well, she would, I guess. Happy new year!

    1. Thanks for the prayers for the foot and yes, crazy what we can convince ourselves is an okay thing to do. I hope she isn't starting to show signs of dementia or anything. :/
