Random Thoughts...
1. The local news is almost nothing but the constant rehashing of Saturday's tragic shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Not unexpected since it did happen so close to home and is something that has captured the attention of the nation as a whole. However, I can't help but think the public would be better served if the news coverage backed off and only showed us new information and happenings as opposed to the constant loop of Saturday's images and interviews with every living soul with a connection, no matter how slight (Ex. "He was my father's personal doctor and such a nice man." or "I always saw her walking in the neighborhood and she seemed so friendly.")
2. President Trump is coming to Pittsburgh today. The man cannot win. If he didn't come he'd be criticized and he's being criticized because he is coming. There are many who are protesting and spouting off on the news (and to my surprise...a female rabbi is chief among them, saying Trump is a hate monger and is not welcome). The mayor has voiced his opinion that Trump should not come "at this time." I guess it shouldn't surprise me since Pittsburgh is a Democratic stronghold.
3. My new boss tries to get all of us in the department to go out to dinner once a month. I didn't go the first time after I started working because it was so soon after that I didn't know anyone yet. Then, last month got skipped for whatever reason. So, I was on it when the sign up for last night went up. Only three of us went, but I really enjoyed it. It was eye-opening and gave me a new look at my boss because the three of us sat there for 3 hours chatting about work, but also had some pretty deep discussions about our faith and how it influences us in the work place. I absolutely love working in a place where faith is part of the day and can be freely discussed!
4. I worked in the dementia unit on Friday because one of the girls called off. I worked there Saturday and Sunday because it was my weekend. I thought I was going to be there again yesterday when a text came in that there was an open 9-5 shift. I assumed it meant I had been shifted to the dementia unit and my shift was open, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the afternoon girl was coming in early to cover the 3 hours I'd be there before she'd get there and another girl had called off on the other side, guaranteeing I would be working there. Then the 12-8 girl called off at 11:30 because her car "was on fire." The other woman working with me ended up handling part of the afternoon alone because my boss took me with her to a sensitivity training.
5. Today's my day off. I'm pretty happy about that. Except that I have to go to work at 1:30 for a mandatory meeting about family medical leave. We have a LOT of mandatory meetings and trainings. Yesterday it was sensitivity to the physical and mental changes seniors experience, today it's about our benefits, next week it's CPR certification.
6. Mom still isn't feeling better. I guess she is supposed to see the doctor again today. Tim isn't feeling better, either. He has to stop and get more tests done today and then he sees the doctor on Monday. It would be wonderful if either of them gets some answers.
7. The kids are going to Niagara Falls this weekend. Cody is a member of the Seneca tribe and has to go once a year to check in so he can continue getting his profit-sharing checks. They are making a weekend of it because he gets a significant discount at the Seneca Niagara hotel and casino...sort of a late getaway for their anniversary. I was going to get stuck with their dog (he doesn't do well with other dogs) and wasn't happy about it, but Tim and I decided we're going to spring for him to stay in a kennel. Cody's parents are keeping Colton this time so I actually have a totally free weekend ahead!
8. Election day can't get here soon enough. I am tired of the mountains of political flyers, phone calls, and commercials.
9. I still haven't gotten the call that my permanent crowns are in. It's been 3 weeks. I guess I'm going to have to call them. Sigh.
10. I've got to get moving. I have laundry and cleaning to do and homework to get done for Bible study tonight and I know Megan and Colton are coming over at some point so she can get caught up on This Is Us.
You covered a lot in this post - LOL! I am also getting sick of hearing the stories about the shooting...I think for me it is because it coudl have been anyone...it is way too close to home and I am trying to forget...UGH and ICK! Good luck on the laundry!!! Can't wait for This Is Us tonight! HUGS
ReplyDeleteYou are so right - Trump will never get a fair chance. People will blame him for EVERYTHING & every move he makes will be wrong.
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking of you since the tragedy. We had a shooting 2 days before you all did - & its sad to say, only 2 died so it didnt get much publicity (how messed up is that???) but our local stations were just covering the same story & pictures over & over & then I just had to turn it off because it really just wears you down.
& I'm with you with election day - I throw more junk mail away these past few weeks. UGH Poor trees
So ... the 'kids' are getting a romantic get-away, grand-dog is going to Camp Bow-Wow, and y'all have a wonderful unstructured 48 hours. Sounds like a WIN-WIN!
ReplyDeleteI totally get what you mean about the media milking this tragedy. I can't even bear to watch the news without wanting to stick my fist through the screen.
