Thanks to Sam at the Saturday 9 for a great song and fun questions. Follow the link to play along.
Saturday 9: So Into You (1977)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) The singer says that he noticed the lady in question as soon as she walked into the room. Tell us about someone who made a powerful first impression on you. My husband was one. He had those dark Irish good looks...black hair and blue eyes...and the first time our eyes met was one of those electric moments. Another one was Toby Keith. I've always liked his music (though not so much the last couple of years) and I very much admire all that he does for the troops and for kids with cancer and their families, but I have to say he has a million dollar smile. When I got to meet him a few years back it was not my best moment. He turned to greet me and when he flashed that smile it was like my brain rolled over and played dead. I literally could not do anything but grin like an idiot. My ability to speak fled the building.
2) He sings that he's so into her, he can't think about other, more mundane things. Do you find you get easily distracted from your daily tasks? Or do you enjoy seeing your everyday chores through completion? I'm not diagnosed, but after raising two kids who were diagnosed with ADD I'm fairly sure I have it and always have. I would love to be efficient and get everything done, but I easily lose myself in other things like reading or, oh, say...blogging.
3) The band took their name from Georgia's biggest city. Have you ever been to Atlanta? Only as far as a layover while flying.
4) The Atlanta Rhythm Section once played the White House. President Carter's son, Chip, was a big fan and invited them to play at his 28th birthday party. How did you celebrate your last birthday? Not with any big parties. Friends and family gave me gifts or sent cards and my husband and I went out for dinner the weekend after.
5) Studio One, where the band made all their recordings, was torn down and replaced by a parking lot. Can you think of a structure that you missed, after it met with a wrecking ball? Our local drive-in theater. It was still a popular summer activity until they sold it about 6 years ago and a drug store went up in its place.
6) This song hit #7 on the US pop charts. 7 is the number most often chosen as "a lucky number." How about you? Do you have a lucky number? I don't really believe in luck, but I have always preferred the number 9.
7) Today the Atlanta Rhythm Section reunites with to play at classic rock concerts. What oldies band would you love to see again? The Eagles would have to top the list then maybe the Bee Gees, 3 Dog Night, and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
8) In 1977, the star of NBC's Chico and the Man, Freddie Prinze, took his own life. Is there a celebrity death you found shocking? Elvis's death was a little bit shocking to me, but I was only 11 or 12 so the shock wore off pretty quickly. I guess the one that really stunned me was Princess Diana. After so many years of seeing her in the news and magazines, papers, etc. it felt like losing someone I actually knew. The media had made her such a presence.
9) Random question: What word do you always misspell? There are tons of them! I can't think of a specific example at the moment, but I'm not a great speller. I'm always running up against words that I have to think about, run through the spelling rules, and then may still get them wrong. I love the little red squiggly line that lets me know a word may be misspelled.
I also think i have ADD or ADHD, they never tested for but when I was little.
ReplyDeleteA local drive-in theater was turned into a town park and every Saturday night they show children movies.
That was a nice idea for using the drive-in. Ours always showed family friendly fare for the last decade or two...of course, you had to pay to watch.
DeleteDark hair and light eyes are to die for! Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI said Diana, too. That is not the way Princess stories are supposed to end.
I've always been a sucker for black hair and blue eyes.
DeleteNo, not a fairy tale ending for Diana. It made me want to hunt down paparazzi myself. And maybe punch Charles in the nose.
Oh yes! Princess Diana! That is a good answer! There are so many that shock me!
ReplyDeleteI always think I have ADD too. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

Thanks, Lori. I thought about it, but not that many celebrity deaths surprise me these days. It's almost like I'm surprised if they don't meet untimely deaths.
DeleteI totally agree about Princess Diana. Every detail of that night is hard-wired in my brain: I spent the night down at my mom's; we ran to Fisherman's Wharf (one of Terri's favorites, lol) then came home and stayed up late watching the news. Sad about Dodi, but they said she only suffered a broken arm. The next morning Mother knocking on my door to say, "Diana died." The next few days "Mr. Wrong" would chastise me for all my crying: "You didn't even know her." Wish I'd thought to say, "Yes, I did. The whole world knew her."
ReplyDeleteMy husband is no celebrity watcher, but even he was glued to the television that day because it felt like she was someone we knew.
DeleteWe have a lot in common Stacy. It is the same thing here with the ADD.
ReplyDeleteYour answer to the first question was very sweet too!
I'm surprised how many my age think they have ADD. I think we must have been better at coping with it than our kids are.
DeleteI think when you're reading or blogging you're doing exactly what you should be doing - which is what you really want to do. Because a clean house means nothing, in the end. I wish I had thought of the BeeGees, but with so many of them gone I don't suppose that is a possibility.
ReplyDeleteI'm late getting to blogs but I enjoyed your Saturday 9 answers! I love all the bands you mentioned, by the way!
