Thankful Thursday

Good morning! I'm hoping today's post is free of yesterday's glaring errors, but since I'm typing early in the morning before work...I'm not promising anything. It's Thursday so I am linking up with the adorable Rebecca Jo @ Knit By God's Hand and the rest of the lovelies for Thankful Thursday.

This week I am thankful...

* to be going to the dentist again today. Words I never thought I'd say, as I HATE getting my teeth worked on. Discomfort can change your mind. The tooth itself doesn't hurt, but that rough edge where it broke has been rubbing the side of my tongue (all the way at the back) to the point it hurts to eat and swallow and I sound a little off when I talk because that part of my tongue is a little swollen.

* for last night's heavy rains that brought us relief from the oppressive heat and humidity...at least for today. Tomorrow it begins to build back up.

* for the very nice coworkers who are showing me the ropes of my new job and setting a wonderful example of how to interact with the dementia residents.

* for my crock pot that allows me to toss ingredients in before I leave for work and have a yummy hot dinner waiting when I get home.

* for Pinterest, who supplies all the yummy crock pot recipes.

* that my daughter comes to the house a couple of times a day and lets Daisy out and talks to her a little bit. She's a needy little thing at the best of times and this business of her mommy being gone for nearly 9 hours a day is not making her happy.

* that so far, there isn't as much being on my feet as I was led to believe there would be. In the dementia wing you always want to do what you can to make the residents comfortable and happy and one of those things is to be on their level. That means either getting down on your knees/squatting to talk to them or sitting on a chair or a rolling stool. I think I'll be able to manage without too much discomfort. Yea!

* that my picture on my ID tag is not horrible as such pictures usually are.

* that when my stepdad went to the ER yesterday with blood pressure in the stroke zone, they checked him out, ran tests, and sent him home saying he was in no imminent danger of having a stroke.

* for this challenging but exciting and satisfying new chapter of life.

* and as always for each on of YOU!

  1. Glad your stepdad is OK! that's scary!!
What a blessed heart you are to take on the dementia community. I can imagine that will be a daily adventure. Praying for a calm spirit for you to pass on to the patients.
I REALLLLLLLY need to put my crock pot to work more. I'm just afraid Ernie Walker will find a way to enjoy the feast before I get home ;) haha

    1. Thank you for the prayer. :) The dementia patients are really sweet and often funny. There are only a couple I've seen be ugly so far and that's just what happens when they get agitated for some reason...could be fear, not liking something or someone, having to use the restroom, being in pain...and that's the only way they can express themselves. Usually the parts of the brain that keep on working are the parts that store rhythm, cuss words, and sex so that's why they get so inappropriate. It's definitely a learning experience, but it's fascinating and it's the most amazing thing when you can make one of them smile.

    1. I agree about the crock pot. I've been saying I'm going to get better at using it for years. Now I don't really have a choice. I've found a link on Pinterest that gives you recipes to put all the ingredients in ziplock bags and freeze them so all you have to do is take a bag out and dump it in the crock. That would be great.

  3. I have pork in the crock-pot right now! What would we do without our crocks? Glad the new job is progressing well!! Nice to have your daughter close enough to let Daisy out and give her some company while you are gone. New "normals" for everyone!

    1. That's my favorite way to cook pork...keeps it nice and juicy. I have a recipe I want to try where you cut slices in the pork roast and stick apple slices in them. I forget what all else it's seasoned with, but it sounds like a nice fall meal.
