Blueberry Hodgepodge

1. What's something in your house you'd like to get rid of but can't?  The sofa. The scale is really not right for the living room and it's been well used so it's gotten squishy and it's just not comfortable....except to my husband. He has a lot of trouble sleeping and most nights ends up moving to the sofa and sleeping there. He refuses to allow me to get rid of it.

2. When is the last time you experienced a sense of nostalgia? Elaborate.  At bible study this week we ended up talking about the order of things in a Christian household, which got us sharing stories about raising our kids.

3. You're only allowed three apps on your smart phone or tablet...which three do you keep?  The Weather Channel, Facebook, and a game called Wordscapes.

4. July 11th is National Blueberry Muffin Day. Who knew? Do you like blueberry muffins? If you were going to have a muffin would blueberry be your choice? What's the last thing you baked?  I do. I like most things with blueberries and it's a good thing since my stepdad has a very prolific patch of blueberry bushes. In fact, I'm going to pick some today. I don't know when I last baked. It's been a while as I don't like to have something like that sitting in the house for just the two of us. I will be making a couple loaves of zucchini/pineapple/blueberry bread, though.

Zucchini Bread
3 eggs. 3 cups flour
2 cups sugar. 1 tsp. Baking soda
1 cup oil. 1 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Vanilla. 1 tsp. Baking soda
1 cup drained, crushed pineapple
2 cups grated zucchini
1-2 cups blueberries (to your liking)
Mix all ingredients.
Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Makes 2 loaves. Freezes well also.

5. What's the biggest way you've changed since you were a child? In what way are you still the same?  My dad was pretty controlling and strict when I was growing up. I NEVER talked back and I just silently took anything anyone said or did to avoid confrontation. That's no longer who I am. I'm kind about it, but I do speak up. As for staying the same, I'd say that it's that I've stayed pretty trusting of others.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I've been limping around with a painful ankle for about a week and a half. I already had an appointment with my pc scheduled for this Thursday so I figured I'd just ask him about it then and go from there. One of the men in my bible study group is a podiatrist and he took a quick look and said it's probably tendonitis. His advice? Wear supportive shoes, wear an ankle brace, take ibuprofen, ice it and if it gets worse or doesn't get better come see him. I've been doing all of that so I'll see what my pc has to see. If he tells me to see a specialist, I've already got one lined up. Man, this getting older is not for sissies!

    1. Thanks for stopping by and for the healing thoughts. Sofa shopping (and agreeing on one) is the worst! You will enjoy the recipe. It's really rich like a muffin.

    2. I keep saying I don't like Facebook and should get rid of it, but I probably never will. It's the only way I keep up with distant family or see pictures of my son's family.

  3. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in the planet who doesn't Facebook. Hope that ankle gets better soon. I'm a huge fan of good, supportive shoes. Hope you have a good Wednesday.

    1. Since my husband caved and added Facebook to his phone, you just might be the last holdout! Stand strong. I own a whole fleet of good supportive shoes and usually wear them, though I'm often barefoot in the summer. This ankle business got started after a day when I had to stand (basically in one spot) for several hours. I won't do that again! Thanks for visiting. Have a great day!

  5. That bread sounds good. I've never added blueberries or pinepapple to mine but I love both so will give it a try. I do hope your ankle improves. You are so right-aging is full of surprises and challenges!

  6. That recipe sounds very good and so I may try it. Your childhood sounds very similar to mine. We never, ever talked back. When I was 36 years old, I stood up to my Dad about an issue and he apologized to me the next day. Our husbands. My answer to the first question was similar to yours. I hope your ankle gets better. Don't overdo with the ibuprophen.

    1. No, we didn't talk back, did we? One of my dad's golden rules was that "children should be seen and not heard."

  7. Oh my, that bread recipe sounds amazing...thanks for sharing! Oh yeah, and that over-sized sofa and love seat will not be going with us to TN...I'll be glad to never have to see it again, LOL! I do hope your ankle feels better soon. I have worked in PT for 30 years and have learned a few tricks over time...ice is your best friend! I would most definitely give it a try, several times a day. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  9. In my family, I am often the one who ends up on the couch! I wake up and can't fall back to sleep, so to keep my "rotisserie chicken tossing and turning" from bugging my husband, I will go to the couch.

Oh, Wordscapes...I mentioned that too. Only thing is, I removed it from my phone, as it was WAY too addictive.

Our zucchini are going gangbusters, and my husband just printed out a recipe he saw for Pina Colada Zucchini bread. He is requesting I make it, which I'm kind of dreading, since I am trying to limit my carb intake.

I agree with you...the aging process is not for sissies! My father-in-law recently said to me, "Don't get old. It's painful."

    Have a great day,
    Patti

    1. My zucchini are just getting started. I haven't even picked one yet...in a day or two, I think.

Wordscapes is how I pass the time when I have to wait around on the bus for the kids.

  10. How funny, our answers to #1 were practically identical.
I never took old ladies' complaints about their feet seriously … until I became one! Fingers crossed and prayers lifted for your ankle's relief!

  11. Getting older has its benefits, but in some ways it is a pain! I'm sorry about your ankle! We have a sofa that could be replaced. I slept on it a lot when my daughter was a newborn. She was NOT into her crib. Fortunately, ours is still pretty comfy.

    1. Age does have benefits, but I could live without the pain. LOL
My daughter is raising her own baby now and he hasn't slept a night in his crib yet (he's 1 1/2). She's going to regret that one of these days.

  12. So sorry to read about your ankle! I am totally with you on the getting old thing! I've had to be extra careful rolling out of bed because I somehow hurt my back a couple of weeks ago. Who is this person who can't even bend over to tie her shoes? Yeah, not me. Ha! Hope you get an answer to your ankle pain. Hugs (tender hugs, that is).

  14. I. LOVE. Wordscapes! I'm so addicted! I chose my sudoku as an app I'd keep, because I like that I can check if I'm on track, unlike a sudoku in a book or newspaper. I love blueberries, and I'll happily eat a good blueberry muffin, but I prefer other baked goods. Blueberries can stand on their own, don't you think?

    1. I like the word puzzles. My mind picks up patterns and they come fairly easy to me. Sudoku is anther story. I just don't see numbers the same way. Yes, blueberries can stand alone. I've been nibbling them right out of the container since I picked them yesterday. I toss a handful on lots of things...cereal, yogurt, ice cream, salad, etc.

  15. You never talked back ? I always did and still do, I don't fear confrontations if they are necessary, concerning your ankle f it is a twisted ankle or a tendonitis.what your bible group man said sounds right to me, I had it once too it lasts a long time and I also had to wear a special ankle bandage ! You can easily count with at least 2 to 3 month that's nothing special. Not so good news !

    1. No, I didn't talk back. My dad would not have tolerated it. Not at all. As for the tedonitis...that long??? I was hoping it was something that would go away in a week or two.
