Tuesday (Mini) Rants

Some things on my mind.

*Our medical system is ridiculous. My husband has a bad knee. It's full of fluid and has been for about 2 weeks. He is in a world of hurt that is, at times, all consuming. He saw his doctor 2 weeks ago. He was told to get blood work and x-rays of his eyes (apparently something that has to be done before an MRI if there is any chance your work exposes you to metal particles) and wait for a call from the MRI people. That's all done and the MRI is scheduled, but not until June 1! Then it's back to the doctor on June 6!!!  At which time they will probably give him a referral to a specialist and who knows how long it will take to get in with him. I find it absolutely ridiculous that he has to be in this kind of pain for that long. (And on top of the pain he is in, this is making it look very doubtful that we will be going on that long weekend in June. He is not going to be in any shape to do all the walking that would be required.)

*The rain can just stop. Now. I mean it. We finally have warm weather and now it's too wet and muddy to get out and work in the garden or yard. My green thumb is itching to get dirty!

*Do parents of teenagers even see their teenagers before they leave the house for school? I have one girl on the bus who has me shaking my head. Until recently I believed her mom to be one of the better moms...on top of things and teaching her kids right. Then the girl, who is 13, and on the chubby side with a chest that rivals Dolly Parton's started wearing her warm-weather wardrobe.

The dresses are so short she has to pull them down as she walks. Today she didn't and I was treated to a reflection of her exposed bum in the overhead mirror as she walked back to her seat. There is no way she could have sat down without exposing herself to the boy in the seat across from her. Another favorite outfit is a pair of skinny jeans that are about 2 or 3 sizes to small so she has a significant muffin top hanging over the waistband. With that she pairs a white guaze top that ties at the waist (but on her that's above the muffin thanks to the earlier mentioned boobage). The top is sheer and she wears a black bra under it.  SHE IS 13 YEARS OLD!!  How can any parent allow their daughter to dress like that for school?

*There are 2 places in the small town where I drive bus where there is significant construction going on. One is a bridge on the main north/south highway and the other is the town square. In both places traffic is down to one direction at a time.. They have installed traffic lights that have delays on them to allow for all traffic to clear before changing to allow the opposing traffic its turn. You wouldn't believe how many people totally ignore that. I'm guessing they think because they are sitting there and nothing is coming at them the way is clear. It is causing major traffic tie-ups in this little town. It's so ridiculous. How hard is it people. When it's green you go, when it's red you stop.

The clock says it's time to go back to work, so I guess I must (only 6 more to go).  Have a blessed day!

  1. Oh my! I can't imagine letting a daughter dress like that. Maybe mom's schedule has changed and she can't be there to see her daughter in the morning. I never understand why a girl wants to dress that way! Just shaking my head.

    1. I don't know. I "talk" to the mom on Facebook, but don't really know her well enough to bring up this particular subject. She was always there before, it's only been recently that the girl is walking down to the bus stop. Maybe Mom's schedule has changed? I don't know, but it really is ridiculous. The school is supposed to have a dress code (or at least rules about things like that). I know kids who have been dress much more conservatively who've been made to change, so how this one is getting away with it is beyond me.

  2. I'm no psychologist, but that girl's attire reminds me of the old saying, "Bad attention is better than no attention." Sounds as if she's major self-esteem issues.

    1. That's possible since she is on the chubby side, but she sure hides it under a major layer of looking down on everyone else.

  3. We touched on the subject of the dress of the younger girls this morning. I meet with a prayer group on Tuesday mornings. This past Saturday, we had an informational meeting/ concert presented by an agency out of Indianapolis that works with young girls who have been trafficked into the sex industry. This organization counsels and mentors those who have gotten away from this life. One of the things mentioned was the lack of parental knowledge of where their children were, who their friends were, and their style of dress. These can be red flags to those who are trained to work against this industry.

    1. Yikes! I hate to think of young girls being dragged into that, but I am sure that's not this one's problem. This is just pushing the envelope and testing limits, I suppose...and probably finding out how to use that chest to her advantage. I just hope she figures something out before she gets into some real trouble.

  4. Rant #1... have you thought about just going to the ER? I used to get fluid removed from my knees (both) nearly every time I went in for cortisone shots. You don't need an MRI to have fluid removed from the knee.

Something tells me that girl's mom leaves the house before her daughter. What a shame.

Keep us posted about hubby's knee. I'll be praying!!

    1. I have, but he wouldn't go. I bypassed our family doctor today and after clearing it with our insurance company, made an appointment for him to see one of the best orthopedic doctors in the region...he's a professor for the University of Pittsburgh and the head physician for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's agreed to see Tim at 7:45 Thursday morning. Unfortunately, Tim hasn't yet agreed to go to that appointment. I have everyone in my bible study group praying that he will.
