Sunday Stealing: Curiosity Killed the Cat

Thanks to Bev for finding some fun questions for us to answer again this week. Visit the Sunday Stealing site for the links to others playing along.

From Curious as a Cat

1) Do you think you’d be a good writer? What kind of writer would you like to be (fiction, children’s books, magazine, etc.)?  Since I went to college for journalism, yes, I suppose I could be a good writer if I tried. I don't think there's a book in me, but I'd probably do well enough at magazine or news articles. Unless, of course, my tendency to procrastinate got in the way...and most likely, it would.

2) I wish I had enough money to ________.   Pay off all our debt, add on to the house, put a nice amount away for retirement, give some to our kids, and put some in savings for the grandkids.

3) If you had to enter a competition for the "Most Uselessly Unique Talent," what would your talent be?   This one from Happy Days. After watching this episode when we were kids, my best friend and I practiced and practiced this "talent." I haven't tried it in a lot of years, but back then I could catch 15 quarters.

4) When it might hurt their feelings, how do you feel about telling your friends the truth?  I would rather always tell the truth, but if it's something like hating the gift they gave me or that their new haircut is dreadful or those pants are not slimming I don't think any purpose is served by hurting their feelings. I'd probably try to go with omission rather than outright lying.

5) Peanut or plain?  Plain. I don't like any kind of nuts, though peanut butter is okay. It's a texture thing.

6) Is there someone you would like to take your place in life for one day? Who and why?  No, I can't think of anyone.

7) What do you think is the ugliest thing or event on Earth?  Hate. Even the "righteous" variety is still hate and still ugly.

8) What is your least favorite of your personality traits or quirks?  That's probably being shy or introverted. Or being a procrastinator.

9) I wish I could see ________ because _________.  The Middle East because it has always fascinated me with its ancientness.

10) Tell us your favorite children's story.  I don't know that I can pick one favorite. I read voraciously even as a child.  A few of the ones that I remember best were about imagination, the best friend of an only child who lived in remote places.  There was The Big Tidy Up about a girl whose room was so messy her mom refused to clean it up. The girl has some wonderful adventures in her room until the mess gets to her and she cleans it up on her own.  There was another about a girl whose parents got a new refrigerator and she got the box. The story follows all the things she turned the box into until her friend ruins it by trying to clean it with a hose. But all is not lost because someone gets a new washer and dryer and the kids get the boxes.  Another is about kids who decide to move out of their house and all the places they try to live...under a great sweeping tree, in the water, in a cave, in a tree, etc. Eventually, they figure out that home is best.

11) What do you keep in the trunk of your car?  A big tote from IKEA and a collapsible thermal trunk organizer for groceries is all that's in there right now. It's often full of stuff to be donated or stuff that I've bought. Oh, I guess if you lift up the rubber trunk liner there's a spare tire and jack in there, too.

12) Describe your perfect, rainy afternoon.  Either a good book and no interruptions or a big, bowl of popcorn and Dirty Dancing in the DVD player.

13) Tell us about your favorite way to get lost in a simple activity — running, chopping vegetables, folding laundry, whatever. What’s it like when you’re in "the zone"?  The only thing I really get "lost" in is playing around on the laptop. I'm always surprised at how much time as passed when I look up.

14) What parts of nature do you like best?  All of it except snakes and sharks. And bugs. Well, bees and butterflies are okay.

15) What's the kindest act you have ever seen done (either to/by you or another)?  I don't even know how to decide. I've seen so many kind things. Humanity isn't as bad as the media would have us believe.

  1. I enjoyed hearing about your favorite girlhood stories. And the "Dirty Dancing" reference! I remember when you carried a watermelon. ;)

    1. It's my favorite chick flick...one of those movies I can probably recite word for word right along with it when I watch.

  2. I have never heard of any of your favorite girlhood stories. Guess I'm not as well read as I thought!

  3. The quarter on the elbow talent is much like today's "bottle flipping," I'm sure we drove our teachers nuts with the coins flying!

  4. My favorite childhood book was Mary Poppins and that was long before Julie Andrews played her in the movie. It was one of those over-sized Golden Books. I'll have to give that quarter trick a try. Never saw it before!

  5. We're nearly the same age but I don't recall any of those children's stories. Huh. Maybe the read different stuff up north. ;-) (And I am sure I would like your house. Orange is not the worst thing in the world, it's just not my favorite color.)

  6. I never heard of that coin trick! Then again, neither have I ever claimed to be coordinated. #15? Can't recall if I've shared one of my favorite bloggers with you ... but seandietrich.com (Sean of the South) has given me an entirely new outlook on the innate goodness of ordinary men and women.

  7. You don't like bugs? Ok, ok, there are a few I don't particularly like, like this little gnat that has been hanging around my computer desk for a couple of days. I think it came in from the garden with me.
I don't recognize any of your books either, because you are so young!
Also, liked your comments on Hate. Very good observations.
