Saturday 9: Piano

Saturday 9: Piano (2013)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) As she sings, Ariana muses about the songs she could compose on her piano. Do you play the piano?  Nope. Not an ounce of musical talent here.

2) She compares love songs, saying there are sad ones about how hard love is, and happy ones that make you want to dance. What's your favorite love song? Is it sad or happy?  I think it's borderline sad if you take it in the context of the movie.

3) Ariana's mother always told her that they took her name from Princess Oriana in the 1988 movie Felix the Cat. Who is your favorite cartoon character?  I don't think I can pick just one. Snoopy was my first cartoon love. In the 80's I met a funny little penguin named Opus from the land of Bloom County and these days I love all the critters who populate Pearls Before Swine.

4) Ariana's favorite board game is Monopoly. What's your favorite board game?
Not Monopoly. I hate that game. Well, the jr. version is okay since it only takes 30 minutes or so to play, but the regular version...just shoot me now. I guess my favorite board games are Life, Clue, Sequence, and Trivial Pursuit.

5) She relaxes by baking. When you feel keyed up, what do you do to relax?  Read, listen to music, play around on the computer.

6) She is a huge Florida Panthers fan, even though once, as a little girl, she got hit by a puck. Now that the NHL season is underway, how's your favorite team doing?  I don't have a favorite hockey team. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the local team and I don't pay attention, but I would imagine they're doing okay. They usually do.

7) In 2013, when this song was popular, the NHL reached an agreement with the players union and averted a strike. Have you ever belonged to a union?
Briefly, when I worked at a local grocery. The cashiers had to join the Food Handler's union.

8) Also in 2013, Pauline Philips died. Ms. Philips was better known to millions of readers as "Dear Abby." At its height, her advice column appeared in 1,400 newspapers across the country. Do you still read a printed copy of your newspaper?  Sort of. My husband goes into withdrawal if he doesn't get the daily papers. I skim the headlines, read the editorial page, check the ads, obits, and maybe the funnies...and not every day.

9) If you could get the answer to one question about your future, what would that one question be?  I really don't want to know anything about my future. I'm afraid I'd change things and maybe it would be for the better and maybe it wouldn't.  Kind of like the Garth Brooks song, The Dance, "I'd have missed the pain, but then I'd have missed the dance."

Thanks, Sam, for another fun edition of the Saturday 9!

  1. Some of my favorite-ever songs are by Garth. That one. "Unanswered Prayers." "One Night a Day." He's a heart-string tugger, that Mr. Brooks.

    1. Unanswered Prayers is a great song. I don't remember the other...going to have to head over to YouTube.

  2. Bloom County is back out on Facebook, did you know? I've been following it since Breathed started it back up. It's a little unscheduled at the moment because he lives in the area where the mudslides and fires were, but his artwork is really fantastic. He's created this new character, Frank, a janitor at a hospital. And Opus and Bill are still there, along with Steve Dallas.

    1. No, I had no idea. I'll look for it next time I'm on Facebook. Thanks for telling me. I hope Breathed's home is okay and he and his family are safe.

  3. That's a great Garth Brooks quote - and sentiment. I love it. My friend Becky is in Penguins-land, too, but they are ferocious fans! I totally forgot about Trivial Pursuit! Maybe we'll have to play a game this weekend. I love it - though your pic for it is quite funny!

    1. My mom is a Penguins fanatic, too. She doesn't go anywhere when they are playing and if you know what's good for you, you'd better not interrupt her. LOL

  4. I love the games you mentioned--and feel the same about Monopoly.

    Love the Garth song.

    1. Yea! Someone else who is not fond of Monopoly. I usually get strange looks when I say that. I don't get why everyone likes it so much.

  5. When it comes to actual news, my paper is useless. Part of the reason why I still subscribe is because I feel so sorry for the delivery person when I am out early in the morning with my dogs. Not many people are getting papers delivered to their home these days.

    1. Our small town paper doesn't have much "real" news. We get a regional one for that. I wouldn't be out walking my dog at the time the paper delivery guy drives through our neighborhood. He drives like he's auditioning for the next Fast and Furious movie.

  6. The questions were different and interesting today! I enjoyed reading yours and can see again that we have some common threads running through our posts!

    1. Yes, they were lighter and fun today and we usually do think along the same lines.

  7. When I get suckered in to a Trivial Pursuit game I am so lousy on media questions since I never watched the shows that they had questions for, now if it was science questions I would have done great.

    1. I'm good on the media...unless it's current. I rock the 80s edition. LOL

  8. I like Garth Williams, both his singing and song writing. He successfully did the crossover from Rock to Country. Good call. :o)

This is human rights...The UFCW is a good union. It has withstood many of the industry attempts to eradicate it. And yes, I believe that hard working people need a living wage. It's only fair.

  9. Thank for reminding me of Bloom County!
Boy, I'm a fence-sitter on #9. Were I not so darn curious ... and a control freak, to boot. (sigh) Still, I love "The Dance."
