It's a Grand Hodgepodge

Good morning!  It's a chilly one out there and it sure is beginning to feel like Fall.  Good grief, I still have three weeks of summer vacation left.  It can't feel like Fall yet.

Anywhooo....Wednesday has rolled around again and you know what that means. Time for some Wednesday Hodgepodging with new grandmama Joyce @ From This Side of the Pond.  Take some time to visit and check out the links to other players...after you've been dazzled by my answers, of course!

1. Do you try to set rules for yourself about how you use your time? Explain.

No, I should because I'm a world-class procrastinator and things that I was just going to do for a minute end up eating hours of time (Facebook, reading, pretty much everything if I'm honest). I could make rules and set time limits, but I wouldn't listen to myself.

2. Monday was National Lighthouse Day. Have you ever visited a lighthouse? If not, do you have any desire to see one up close? Of the 10 Most Beautiful that made this list which would you most like to see in person-

Lindau Lighthouse (Germany), Fanad Lighthouse (Ireland), Portland Head Light (Maine), Yaquina Bay Light (Oregon) The St. Augustine Light (Florida), Peggys Point Lighthouse (Canada), Start Point Lighthouse (England), Tower of Hercules (Spain), Bass Harbor Head Station (Maine), and White Shoal Light (Michigan)

I may have seen others when I was growing up, but the only one I've been up close and personal with as an adult is the one on Assateague Island, VA. As for what one I'd like to visit now...I'm torn between the one in Ireland (because who doesn't want to go to Ireland?!) and the one in Oregon (because I'd like to see the Pacific Northwest).

When you've been away, what's your 'lighthouse' telling you you're on the right road home?

My GPS?

3. What have you unintentionally stopped doing? Is this something you need to pick back up and begin again, or is it something you need to let go of for now (or even permanently)?

Caring about family traditions.  I didn't want to and I definitely didn't do it intentionally.  It just sort of happened as the kids went out on their own and poo-pooed my attempts to carry on certain things.  They've kind of forced me to take holidays as they come.  I'm not thrilled and I think they and the grandkids miss out on a lot, but maybe with our daughter's son being so close by some of those old traditions will get revived.  I hope so.

4. We've had a full week of August. Share a GRAND moment from your month so far.

Well, it's a GRANDchild moment.  Our grandson is rushing up on being 8 months old this weekend and it seems like every time I see him he's learned something new.  My favorite thing is when I pick him up and and he grabs on and just snuggles in, rubbing his head under my chin and on my neck and chest (sort of the way a cat rubs on you).  It is just the most precious thing and positively grand!

5. Tell us one song you love with the word 'baby' in the title.

I couldn't think of one I "love" but this one is always fun!

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

This has been and will continue to be a busy week around here.  Today is kind of a lull...for which I am grateful.  Monday I was out most of the day with my daughter and a friend of mine with a gift for crafting/decorating/floral arranging. We managed to find and buy all of the flowers for the wedding bouquets and table decorations as well as some other things needed for the wedding. Yesterday I took my daughter and the baby to do some shopping and last night was Bible study.  The discussion was so awesome at Bible study that I didn't even leave the host's home until after 10:00!

Today is a restful day and then tomorrow my daughter and I are driving up to where my niece lives to get some items leftover from her wedding that will work at the bridal shower next weekend.  Friday we're getting together with my friend again to assemble and decorate the bouquets and table arrangements. It's hard to believe it's just over a month until the wedding!

  1. Regarding the lighthouse questions:go to the one on the Pacific Northwest. You will love that part of the country with all of it's green. Then when you can afford it, go to Ireland.

I hope all the wedding prep goes well!

    1. That sounds like good advice and probably the way I'd handle it. These days I'm not so crazy about the idea of traveling outside the country.

  2. A wedding, how busy and exciting they are. Hope all works out well but we always like to say that even if things don't all turn out the way you planned they are still married in the end. :) Do plan a trip to the Pacific Northwest. Our area has so much to offer. I'm sad with you on your answer to #3. Have a great day.

    1. Yes, only a little over a month until the wedding. I'm sure it will be a wonderful day, but boy...my stress levels will surely drop dramatically when it's over.

I hope to get to your area one day. I haven't actually said much to my husband about this dream so I have no idea if he'll be on board or not.

  3. We've been in the PNW for a couple of weeks and it has been ridiculously hot here during the day (it does cool down at night thank goodness). The wedding is fast approaching-how exciting! Good luck with all the last little bits and pieces that need doing.

    1. I would dearly like to go to the PNW to see the forests and I have a classmate who posts wonderful photos he takes as he walks around Seattle that just make me want to visit all the more.

  4. Boy, #3? Shortly after we married in '04, I was dismayed to realize DH -- and his grown kiddos -- never had plans for the holidays; and worse ... had no qualms about it.

Thankfully, we've come to an uneasy compromise, but I still miss having traditions. I'm choosing to believe that your daughter and her family pick up the torch!

    1. I know my daughter likes the traditions. She disliked it as much as I did when things changed when her brother began his own family. I'm willing to be flexible on things these days and for example, we started alternating our family Christmas between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so our son and his wife could be fair to both their families. That has worked out very well. My daughter and her soon to be husband agree it's a good plan and want to do that, too. The problem is his mother who does not want to change anything, compromise, or get over it. She wants everything the way it always has been. It's very stressful for the kids and we kind of end up getting cheated because she's constantly nagging them to go there when we are celebrating. Sigh.
