Saturday 9: Nights on Broadway

Saturday 9: Nights on Broadway (1975)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) It's estimated that there are more than 200 separate streets called "Broadway" in the United States. Does your town have a Broadway?

Not that I'm aware of.

2) Think of the last time you celebrated well into the night. What street were you on?

It's been years and years since I've celebrated long into the night. I've been awake long into the night, but actually celebrating....it's probably been at least 20 years. Even for our daughter's wedding last fall we were home before midnight.

3) The Bee Gees blame it all on those songs that go straight to the heart. What love song always makes you go, "aw ...?"

Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton.

4) Even though their sound depended on tight harmonies, all three Bee Gees were heavy smokers, which is not good for the throat. What habit do you have that wish you could break?

Biting my nails when I am stressed, but after 53 years I'm not feeling real hopeful about it.

5) In addition to the three Gibbs who sang this song, there was a fourth brother, Andy, who also had hit records. But did you know the Gibbs' had a sister, Lesley? Your turn: share some trivia that's rattling around in your head.

I did not know about the sister.  Andy was one of my big teen crushes. He had a lot of problems with substance abuse and at one time was involved with Victoria Principal...I remember a lot of people thought when he died that he'd committed suicide over her. I read he died of a heart infection, though. So sad.

Anyway...trivia.  Do you know that manhole covers are round because that is the only shape that can't be spun around or turned up on it's edge or maneuvered somehow to fall through the hole?

6) "Nights on Broadway" was recorded in Miami. When you think of Florida, what comes to mind?

Orlando, Disney and all the rest of the touristy stuff because that's where we lived when we were first married. Once I get past that, I think of the swamps and gators, the beaches, the incomparable crystal blue sky mornings, the HEAT and HUMIDITY.

7) In 1975, when this song was popular, Sony introduced the Betamax and JVC gave us the VCR. Sam admits she was glad to see VCRs go because she never could program hers. What about you? Do you adapt easily to new technology?

Some of it. Some of it, not. I think Twitter is stupid and I haven't jumped on the bandwagon for Instagram or SnapChat. I have and know how to use a smart phone, though it annoys me to some extent that my phone and laptop have linked all my accounts. I have 3 Fitbits (my husband apparently forgets that he buys them for me). I use a digital camera with a little bit of skill. The one thing I cling stubbornly to is my CDs. I have so far resisted digital downloads.

8) The Bee Gees' greatest success came two years later, in 1977, with the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Have you ever seen the John Travolta movie?

Of course. Several times.

9) Random question -- Your mail carrier is very attractive, and flirts with you each day when dropping off the mail. Would you a) ignore it or b) let the carrier know, firmly but politely, that you're not interested or c) complain to your local post office or d) subscribe to more magazines and order more stuff to guarantee that the mail carrier comes every day?

A or B as long as it wasn't getting too weird or invasive. I've been happily married for 33.5 years so I'm definitely not interested, I've never had a very attractive mailman, and my mom was a rural letter carrier for over 20 years....I've met a LOT of mailmen and they tend to be a "unique" breed.

That's it for this week! Thanks for another fun song and
bunch of questions, Sam. Please, visit the Saturday 9

  1. Your answer to #9 reminds me of an old Ann Rule/true-crime book I read: Small Sacrifices. It's about a woman who killed her own children because her new boyfriend didn't want kids. Anyway, both the woman and her new fella were postal workers. It seems the postal workers in Oregon were, at least in those days, quite a randy bunch! I had no idea!

  2. I am a bit too much into my Fitbit. I aim for 10k but, usually do a lot more because I drive myself crazy.

  3. My mom retired from the USPO though she wasn't a mail carrier. These were some fun questions to answer this week! Happy weekend, Stacy!

  4. I like the Fitbit but I'm glad I only have one of them. I have to use the Flex 2; the ones that take your pulse hurt and bother me. I mostly just want the step count anyhow and this works better than an pedometer I've ever tried. I do not envy you trying to drive that bus.

  5. I love that Clapton song ... in fact, everything he does! Pretty cool bit of bit of trivia there.

  6. I don't have enough friends to use Snapchat, but as an amateur photographer, I LOVE Instagram. Such beautiful photos there! A Fitbit would be lost one me. If I take 100 steps in a day, it's an exhausting day
