The Wednesday Hodgepodge Goes for the Gold!

1. February can be a little bit tricky given the weather and the winter and the whatnot. I read a list (here) of things you can do to make your February brighter which included-start planning your next trip, take more baths, make your own chocolate covered strawberries, and exercise in preparation for swimsuit season. Anything on the list you might try? Which suggestion on the list appeals to you most? Tell us something not on the list that helps make your February brighter.

Well, I need to get serious about doing some exercises, not for swimsuit season, but because of losing weight. I need to develop some muscle mass to tone things up. So far I've hauled out the Total Gym and set it up. I also have a Fluidity Barre and Tai Cheng waiting in the wings.  As for something that's not on the list, I love browsing through gardening catalogs and magazines and planning my garden.

2. Tell us about something you've seen or done recently that you'd say was 'super'?

Our daughter shared a video today of our grandson in which she asks him how old he is and he holds up one finger. I thought that was pretty super!

3. Best thing you ate in a 'bowl' last week?

The ground beef soup I made one cold night after work. It was just the thing to warm us back up after being out in the cold all day.

4. Something you're 'cheering' for right now?

A friend's marriage. Two weeks ago it looked like it was over, but she and her husband are at least communicating and he went with her to counseling yesterday. It's a tough situation, but I hate to see a marriage end so I'm rooting for them to make it.

5. The Winter Olympics begin Friday, February 9th in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being all in and 1 being no interest whatsoever) how interested are you in the games? Which event do you most want to see (you'll find a list here).

We always watched them when I was growing up, but then we watched ALL sports that were on at my house....and back then there were only 3 channels to watch, which kind of limited the choices.  My husband is not into sports at all. He takes after his dad that way.  So, I guess I'm about a 3 or 4 on the interest scale. I'll watch if they're on and my husband doesn't want to watch something else, but I won't be heartbroken if I don't see any of it.  My favorite events have always been bobsledding and the luge, followed by figure skating.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We are expecting nasty weather to move in during the night (I'm typing on Tuesday evening) and nearly all the area schools have already called a 2-hour delay for tomorrow morning, that way they can see how it plays out and decide whether to have school or cancel. I don't know about anyone else, but I am totally over winter.

UPDATED: We have a full fledged snow day! Yippee!

  2. Stacy,

Oh, I'm so glad we don't have to worry about snow. It's usually the black ice that gets us. Thankfully, we're on the upside of the weather rollercoaster for the next couple of weeks. I also need to get more active on my elliptical. I started off fine but the got side track. You know how life can get sometimes. Enjoy your day off. Go outside, build a snowman, and burn some calories! lol :D

    1. We get the black ice, too. In fact, yesterday was more of an ice day than a snow day...and I didn't go out and burn calories. I hibernated!

  3. Glad you got your snow day and didn't have to venture out in the ice and nasty weather. It's been raining buckets here all day today, but I can handle that. I hate to see marriages end too. I do hope your friends make it.

    1. It was a mess here...ice, then rain, then snow. My car ran for 30 minutes before I left for work this morning and it still wasn't completely defrosted. Thanks for hoping for my friend.

  4. Good for you in getting your snow day! They cancelled school here too, but unfortunately, I still have to go to work. No one ever cancels a police department. lol

Anytime of talking to your grandchild and/or seeing a video is super.

    1. LOL No, I guess you don't ever get a snow day! I saw a shirt somewhere that I want. It says, "Sometimes I think I'll skip school and sleep in...then I remember I'm the bus driver."

  5. That's a great thing to root for. Wow, a snow day. Love that super visual of the video of your grandson! Sweet. Our granddaughter turns one in March.

    1. A happy early birthday to your granddaughter! We are enjoying the dickens out of our littlest grandson since he lives nearby. Our other grands are not terribly far away, but far enough that we don't get to see them all the time.

  6. I hear ya on the being SO over winter! Me too! I know we've got all of March and April yet before things look really promising, so I'll try to keep occupied without too much whining. Glad you got your snow day. And I agree that any news and videos from the grands is always so fun and encouraging. xo

    1. I would lose my mind if I had to put up with winter all the way through April, too! We might get a cold snap or a light snow in April, but they tend to be short-lived. By May we will be complaining about the heat since it seems the weather just bypasses spring these days.

  7. I should write a blog post about my former student who's an Olympian again--his second Olympics!

    1. Yes, you should! That would be interesting to read. What's his event?

  8. Hoping your friends can work things out. Prayers lifted for them!! I enjoyed reading your HP and am glad you had a snow day! Hopefully you aren't into needing make-up days yet. I highly recommend Florida....

    1. Thank you for praying for my friends. I believe we will now have to use all of the snow make up days scheduled into the calendar. We haven't had to add any days to the end of the year yet...unless we have to make up the day that the threat caused the schools to be evacuated or have more days off for snow.

  9. I'm jealous because we've had one week of winter weather this year and that. is. it. I hate to see marriages break up, too and we might have one doing just that in our family. I agree with your response to #2. Anything involving grandchildren is SUPER! :)

  10. I'm envious of your determination to exercise and firm! Please tell me you're not one of those enthusiasts who grins with every sit-up? (There's little I loathe more than exercising.)

That home-made soup sounds really (really!) good.

    1. Nope...I'm more apt to grumble about having to do it.

How wonderful it is to hear that your friend's are working on their marriage...they have my best wishes! Noe snow here in NC, only rain but we will probably get more before the month is over.
