Two Fer

Popping in a day late with the Wednesday Hodgepodge, hey, at least I am here. Please stop by and visit our hostess, Joyce, and to find more blogs participating.

1. Can you tell I'm embracing a Cinco de Mayo theme here this week? Do you like Mexican food? What's your favorite dish? How about on the side-black beans, pinto beans, refried beans, rice? What about heat-mild, medium, hot? Will you celebrate with Mexican food and drink on May 5th aka Cinco de Mayo? I do like Mexican food, though I prefer it on the mild side these days.  My favorite dish is called pina loca and is served at our local Don Patron restaurant.  They take half of a pineapple, clean the "meat" out of it and grill the shell so it is all warm and juicy.  Then they grill pork, chicken, shrimp, the pineapple, onions and peppers together with some spices and put it back in the pineapple.  It comes with tortillas so you can eat it like a fajita.  I doubt I will celebrate Cinco de Mayo since I never have before.

2. Ever been to Mexico? For work or holiday? Love it or no? If you haven't been is this a place you'd like to visit? Can you speak Spanish? I've not been to Mexico.  I'd love to see it, but admit that these days the thought of going makes me a bit nervous.  No, I can't speak Spanish...just a few words here and there.

3. What's one thing you may accomplish this month?  Booking the tent, tables, and chairs for our daughter's wedding.

4. If you were mayor of your village, city, or town, what's one thing you'd like to see changed, done away with, revamped, or accomplished? Is serving in public office something you've ever seriously considered? I would put more money into our little jail (something I tried to do when I was president of the civic club). Our police station and jail are the headquarters for the county-wide drug task force and often houses (temporarily) all those rounded up in big raids.  The last I knew the jail wasn't any where near as secure as it needed to be.  I'd give them the money to take care of that.

5. What's something that may be popular, but that you just don't get? In all honesty....the "women's movement."  I just don't see how running around with a pink hat on your head carrying vile signs and shouting even more graphic, nasty stuff improves our lot as women.

6. Can't let this week slip by without mentioning Thursday May 4th is Star Wars Day. As in 'May the 4th be with you' ahem. Are you a fan of the Star Wars series? Exactly how much of a fan are you? On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being 'I've seen every film, own the action figures, might have dressed as Darth Vader for Halloween one year', and 1 being, 'what's a Vader?' -where do you land? I guess maybe I'm a 5 or 6.  I have seen (and loved) the first three movies several times and the first of the newer ones only once.  I stopped after that.

7. Scroll back through your blog posts and in three sentences or less tell us the general theme of your fourth blog post. Does it still ring true today? Is it a topic you re-visit on your blog from time to time?
Well, it was the Sunday Stealing meme, which is something like this only much longer and not as genteel in spirit. I can't say it has or had a theme, but I still do it nearly every Sunday.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  Today, being Thursday means it's time to show a little gratitude around the blog by joining in with Rebecca Jo @ Knit By God's Hand for Thankful Thursday.  This week finds me thankful...

  • for my hubby.  He's not feeling well and there is a cloud hanging over us concerning his health, but he has been working really hard to finish up some projects around here (his choice, not due to any nagging).
  • for all the rain.  I don't really like it, but this Spring is so.....LUSH. Everything that blooms is doing just that and in a very spectacular way. The colors are breathtaking.  And don't even get me started Up on the ridge it almost feels like being in a rain forest.
  • for the health insurance and dental insurance we have.  I'm hearing so many horror stories.
  • for a fun day at the auction with my mom...and the Broyhill coffee table and side tables I got for $17!
  • for a great night at Bible study.  We wrapped up our study of Revelation after more than a year.
  • that school is nearly done. Only 16 more days!
  • for finding an awesome "new" song to enjoy...

  • for all of you.  Enjoy the rest of the week and have a blessed weekend, my friends!

  2. 16 days??? I'm so jealous.
OH lady... I can tell you, if you have anything half way decent in dental or health insurance, you are truly blessed. I pay out the wahzooo for both & my insurance is sheer crap. Its so depressing.

  4. That Mexican dish sounds totally delish! I have never seen anything like that on the menu of my favorite Mexican restaurant. At my favorite Thai restaurant, though, they scoop the meat out of a coconut, saute the meat with shrimp, rice, and spices, and then serve it in the scooped-out shell. Delish beyond measure!!

Wow, $17 for a coffee table and end tables. That is quite the score. Definitely something to be thankful for.

Having had my own daughter's wedding about a year and a half ago, I know this is an exciting time for you and her. Hope everything goes smoothly.

    Have a lovely day,
    Patti
