Sunday Stealing: The High School Questions

We found this gem from blogger called Diana Pharaoh Francis from the blog "Mad Libs".She explains that the questions came to her by way of R. Clement Moore. But, they were probably stolen at that blog as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Please consider liking WTIT on Facebook. Cheers to all us thieves!

Sunday Stealing: The High School Questions

1. Did you date someone from your school?

Hubby and Me in 1984

I went out with a couple of guys from school.  Nothing serious, though.  At least not until I met my husband. He was two years ahead of me in school and I never knew him until two years after I graduated.

2. Did you marry someone from your high school?

Oops...got ahead of the questions.  As mentioned above, I did.

3. Did you car pool to school?

No, it was the bus for me.

4. What kind of car did you have?

I didn't have one.

5. What kind of car do you have now?

A sparkly, red 2015 Toyota Camry.

6. Its Friday night...where are you now?

Probably at home reading, watching TV, or playing on Facebook because my husband is already asleep.

7. It is Friday night...where were you then?

With my friends cruising the shopping center or at a football game or just hanging out or if I could get away with it, at a party.

8. What kind of job did you have in high school?

Just a little bit of babysitting here and there and I spent the summer before my senior year working for the Youth Conservation Corps in the Pocono Mts.

9. What kind of job do you do now?

I've been a school bus driver for the last 14 years.  I keep looking around...hoping to end that run one of these days.

10. Were you a party animal?

A totally staged photo of some
real party animals.  LOL

Maybe at heart, but not in reality.  My dad was much older than my mom and very strict.  He kept me on a very short leash.

11. Were you considered a flirt?

I doubt it.  I was too shy.

12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?

No. There isn't an ounce of musical talent in my body.

13. Were you a nerd?

I didn't feel like one, but I was in all advanced classes so I guess maybe I was.

14. Did you get suspended from school?

No.  My dad would have grounded for like a million years!

15. Can you sing the fight song?

Badly, but yes.

16. Who was/were your favorite teacher?

My homeroom teacher, who was the boys' gym teacher, because he was like a big brother to all of us kids in his room and Mrs. Werner, the teacher for several of my elective English courses.  I just saw Mrs. Werner yesterday and the library's used book sale.  She works cuddling babies at the hospital these days and was only too happy to cuddle my grandson for a while.  I think he likes Mrs. Werner, too.

17. Where did you sit during lunch?

At a table with friends.  I don't really remember much about it beyond that.  It must not have been that big of a deal or all that traumatic.

18. What was your school's full name?

Derry Area Sr. High School.  Go ahead, say the name in your best French accent.  I've heard all the jokes.

19. Where did you party the most?

I didn't really do much partying...the strict dad thing.

20. What was your school mascot?

A trojan.  Again...I've heard all the jokes.

21. Would you do it again?

Not by choice.

22. Did you have fun at Prom?

I didn't go to Prom.  By choice.

23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with?

Obviously, not.

24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion?

Me on the right with a friend who died
just a couple of years later from
a brain tumor.

No.  I never went to any until the last one (30th).  Many members of my class are on Facebook and it got started on there. Somehow they nagged convinced me to go.  Out of 365 in our graduating class there were about 20 of us on Friday night for pizza and counting spouses there may have been about 45 on Saturday.  I don't have any desire to go to another one and many people told the organizers that they never wanted to be contacted again.  I think Facebook has killed reunions...we all know each other's business in real time.

25. Do you still talk to people from school?

Just a few in real life and a slightly larger number on Facebook.

26. What are/were your school's colors?

Blue and gold.

That's it for this week. Please visit the

  1. I am friends with many high school classmates on FB, but I confess I have "unfollowed" a lot of them so that while we remain friends, I don't see their posts. I just didn't want to know. You're right, though. Facebook probably has killed reunions, just as I think school annuals are no longer a thing. I don't think my old high school even puts out an annual anymore.

    1. I've only unfriended a couple and it was, unfortunately, over politics. I don't mind anyone having different opinions and even enjoy discussion, but the ones I let go were flooding MY page with articles trying to enlighten me and they were getting very nasty and combative with other friends. I go on Facebook to escape the garbage not find it.

  2. I've thought about driving a school bus, but don't think I could handle how rowdy kids are today.

    1. I drive in a small, rural district so it's probably not that bad compared to more urban areas, but even these kids can make a sailor blush with the profanity and crude garbage that comes out of their mouths (and sadly, that can be the little ones, too). As far as actual behavior...I'd rather deal with teenagers than the elementary kids. The younger ones are very disrespectful and have real attitudes...and it seems to get worse every year.

    2. I live in a very small rural town too, it takes me 30-45 minutes to get to a Wal-Mart no matter which direction I go. I would have thought the teenagers would be more hard to handle, so I'm surprised. I hope they don't get too rowdy! It's hard enough to concentrate while driving without a bunch of rowdy kids misbehaving.

  3. Just out of curiosity, WHY didn't they have a bare bum for the mascot and derriere? Inquiring minds.... xoxo mair

    1. HA! I don't know. We kids probably would have loved that. LOL

  4. I think you're right about Facebook killing off reunions. I've learned much more than I ever really wanted to know about some of my old classmates, now that they're on Facebook. They all seemed a lot nicer back in high school!

    1. I actually go the other way on that. I'm friends with more people that I wasn't friends with. Some of them have grown up and are nice now. Others not so much, but my class had all these groups and cliques and wasn't very close.

  5. Funny that I'm more interested in going to class reunions because of Facebook.

    1. I have a couple of friends who feel that way, too, but I don't think anyone else does since this year is 35 years since we graduated and I've heard nothing more than a couple of half-hearted "We should have a reunion" comments.

  6. My class has never had a "real" reunion. Facebook pulls a few together when someone is "home" for a weekend, for instance. I'll see a few next time I'm in Ohio (maybe September). I'm still in touch and visit with my two BFFs from school.

    1. That seems to be the trend with some of the people in my class, too. I will see that someone is coming home and getting together with a few classmates, but even that doesn't happen that often.

  7. I've never had any desire to attend a reunion. Still, there was a moment of gratification - albeit second-hand - when, at an earlier reunion, my BF was approached by one of the former popular/mean girls: "I'm so sorry we were so awful to you and Myra." (Yikes, how's that for a run-on sentence.)

    1. That was a great run-on sentence! Also great that one of the mean girls grew up and apologized. That is amazing!
